Jack Bauer had recently reconciled with his wife, Teri, after a separation for which their daughter, Kim, blamed her mother. Kim had been playing her father against her mother, and when her parents went to tell Kim that she couldn't do so, they found that she had snuck out of her window.

Before Richard Walsh arrived at CTU, Jack Bauer told his team that he suspected that Walsh had called them in because of a threat against David Palmer, so he told his team to start working on it. When Walsh arrived, he confirmed Bauer's suspicions, and privately, he told Bauer to start looking for traitors among his team.

George Mason brought a data card to Jack Bauer which gave him access to secured information on a potential assassination attempt on Senator David Palmer. Bauer wanted to know who the source was, and Mason told Bauer that he couldn't tell him. Bauer decided to tranquilize Mason to give him time to dig up some dirt on Mason so that he could blackmail Mason into giving him the source.

Alan York called Teri Bauer and told her he was the father of Janet York, one of Kim Bauer's friends. He said Janet had snuck out of the house, and after finding out that Kim had also snuck out, he asked to come see Teri Bauer so that they could search for the girls together.

Martin Belkin was scheduled to meet Senator David Palmer in the morning for a photo shoot. Mandy had been sitting next to Belkin on the flight, and she stole his wallet with his identification pass. She then set a bomb to go off on the plane while she blew a door and ejected herself out of the plane.

Answer: Baylor had proof that someone in the agency was taking classified files.

Scott Baylor had obtained a government keycard that had been altered to allow files to be saved on it. The files were on Senator David Palmer and had been snuck out of secured areas via the keycard. He gave it to Richard Walsh so that Walsh could find out whose keycard it was, but as they were leaving, Baylor was shot dead and Walsh was wounded by unknown assailants.

Answer: He cut off his finger.

Richard Walsh had called Jack Bauer and told Bauer that he was being pursued in the building. Bauer arrived and helped kill the assailants. He told Walsh that he needed to identify the men to figure out who had sent them, so he cut off the finger of one of the shooters to take it back to CTU to run the fingerprint.

Secret Service Agent Aaron Pierce arrived at Senator Palmer's hotel suite to speak with him, but Palmer had left the area without anyone's knowledge. Pierce immediately notified the other agents to locate Palmer, and when Sherry Palmer asked Pierce what was going on, he told her about the threat to Senator Palmer.

Richard Walsh was shot as he and Jack Bauer were leaving the Dunlop Plaza building after they believed they had killed all of the assailants. Walsh was lying injured on the ground, and when he moved to throw the keycard he had obtained from Scott Baylor to Bauer, Walsh was shot again and was killed.

Richard Walsh had given the card to Jack Bauer and told him that Jamey Farrell could decode it for him. Bauer transmitted the data to Farrell from his vehicle, and she sent him back the decoded information. Nina Myer's name was on the card.
