Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What record did the gang think they broke in the cold opening?

Answer: Most people in a public bathroom

3. Why did Diane need the money?

Answer: to buy a signed copy of Ernest Hemingway's book

The book was "The Sun Also Rises" by Ernest Hemingway. Hemingway died in 1961 from suicide. Since he was such a famous author, and not alive, it's not surprising that a signed copy of his book would cost so much.
4. Who did Diane ask for the money?

Answer: Sam

Sam gave her the money, saying he didn't expect to get it back. He said he'd lost a lot of friends over the years from money loans and decided from now on just to expect not to get it back so he would keep his friends. Diane swore to him that she would pay him back.

After he smashed them all, he said, "I probably shouldn't have had that last one." Later on, he apologized to Diane.
6. When Diane told him the book she wanted was signed by the author, what did Sam say?

Answer: "For $500, Margaux Hemingway should come to your house and act it out."

Margaux Hemingway was Ernest Hemingway's grand-daughter. Like him, she also committed suicide. While he was an author, she was an actress.

Sam was not a reader and therefore could not imagine why anyone would spend that much on a book.
7. What did Sam say made him angry?

Answer: when Diane treated him like an animal

Diane gave Sam the book to hold until she could pay him back. She told him "not to touch it.... scratch with it." At which point Sam told her that he got angry when she treated him like an animal.

Answer: No

Cliff said he could have had the record for the loudest scream when he backed into his mother's curling iron. He was only hours away from breaking the walking backwards record when he lost.

Answer: dropped Diane's book in the bath water

Sam had started to read "A Sun Also Rises" and took it with him when he took a bath. He said he gotten to the point where Jake was shot in his private area. This event in the story caused Sam to drop the book.
10. What was the combination to Sam's safe?

Answer: his birthday

A man wanted to buy the book from Diane for $1000 so Diane told Sam to get it out of the safe. Sam said that he couldn't remember the combination and Diane said, "Don't you remember, it's your birthday."
