Callahan, born on December 23rd, 1953 in New York City, originated the role of Edmund on "AMC" in March of 1992. He stayed with the show until February of 2005 when his character was killed off. It was hinted that he left the show due to his impending divorce from co-star, Eva LaRue (who played Maria), but it was revealed that he was let go for budgetary reasons. Callahan has also starred on the soap operas, "Days of our Lives" and "General Hospital."

Edmund was an ambitious journalist and he arrived in Pine Valley to investigate the death of Will Cortlandt. When he arrived in town, he fell in love with fellow journalist, Brooke English. Will Cortlandt's killer was eventually revealed to be Janet Green.

Dimitri got into a rage and shot Edmund.

Dimitri worked with the Hungarian authorities to try and prevent Edmund and anybody associated with him from entering the country. Tad told Edmund he wanted to help him get Maddie back. To distract the authorities at the airport in Budapest, Edmund and Tad dressed up in drag and they went to Vadzel. Edmund persuaded Gloria to give up Maddie to him by explaining to her that he and not Dimitri was her father. Gloria let Edmund take Maddie back to Pine Valley.

Edmund and Dimitri chased Helga all throughout Budapest after she trapped Erica in a crypt. They encountered her up on a wall, in Budapest, and told her to surrender. Helga plunged off the wall but, right before she did, she informed Edmund that he was Hugo Marick's son and he would inherit Wildwind because of this.

Edmund was at the Wildwind stables, one night, and he was knocked out and the stables were set on fire. Aidan happened upon the scene and noticed that Lily was stuck inside. Aidan managed to get Lily to safety but Edmund was pronounced dead at the hospital. The killer was revealed to be Jonathan Lavery but, since Jonathan had a tumor at the time he killed Edmund, he was not prosecuted.

Edmund ran for a major public office and, on election day, he was revealed to be in the lead at first. However, his opponent, Matt Calloway, seized ahead of him and went on to win the election. Afterwards, Matt planned to have Edmund killed so, one night, he set off a bomb in Edmund's car. Edmund was believed to have been killed but, on the day of his funeral, he crashed the service and said that he saw Matt by his car so he ran and never got into his car. Matt was killed in the blast.
