Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which actor originated the role of Jesse?

Answer: Darnell Williams

Williams, born in 1955, took on the role of Jesse when he came to "AMC" in 1981. Williams was born in London since his father was in the military and he traveled extensively. He grew up in New York City. He won his first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1985 for his portrayal of Jesse Hubbard.
2. Who was Jesse's best female friend in the early 1980s?

Answer: Jenny Gardner

Jesse and Jenny had one of the show's most popular friendships. Jesse was at odds with Liza and Amanda since they tried to get Jenny to break up with Greg (Jesse and Greg were very good friends). Jesse and Jenny's summer in New York City in the Summer of 1982 was such a popular story that it helped "AMC" be number one in the ratings for ten weeks.
3. How is Jesse related to William?

Answer: Jesse is William's grandfather

William is the biological son of Frankie Hubbard and Mia Saunders. Since Jesse is Frankie's biological father, that makes him William's grandfather. Mia gave up William for adoption.
4. The actor who originated the role of Jesse won his first Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in what year?

Answer: 1983

Darnell Williams took home his first Daytime Emmy for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1983 (See the Interesting Info section for the first question to find out another Daytime Emmy fact for Mr. Williams). Other nominees in the category that year were Howard E. Rollins, Jr. of "Another World", David Lewis (III) of "General Hospital", John Stamos of "General Hospital", Anthony D. Call of "One Life To Live", and Al Freeman, Jr. of "One Life To Live." Williams received his first Daytime Emmy nomination for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1982 but lost to David Lewis (III) of "General Hospital."
5. In June of 2008, Jesse was hired as a professor at Pine Valley University, teaching what subject?

Answer: Criminology

Jesse got a job at PVU to be a Professor of Criminology. However, he also got an offer to be the new Pine Valley Chief of Police since the previous Chief, Derek Frye, resigned to move to Hawaii to be close to his daughter, Danielle. Jesse wanted to be Chief and Angie attempted to persuade him to be a Professor of Criminology since she recalled how Jesse "died" in 1988 as a result of his job as a police officer so she did not want him returning to that life. Eventually, Angie told Jesse to take the job as Chief of Police and Jesse did.
6. What is Jesse's father's first name?

Answer: Lionel

This has not been mentioned much but, when Jesse first came to town in 1981, he mentioned his father, Lionel Hubbard. Frank was the name of his uncle, Dr. Frank Grant (Frank is the brother of Jesse's mother. Jesse and Angie named their son, Franklin "Frankie" Hubbard, after Jesse's Uncle Frank), Les was the first name of Angie's biological father, and Greg was after Jesse's great friend, Greg Nelson.
7. Jesse once co-owned The Steam Pit. At the time, did Angie own it as well?

Answer: No

Before Jesse found his calling as a police officer, he was a co-owner of The Steam Pit. However, Angie did not ever own this establishment. Before Angie became a doctor, she volunteered at a hospital as a candy striper. This helped Angie decide that a career in medicine was what she wanted.
8. Jesse returned to the show in 2001 as a ghost to help escort Gillian Lavery to Heaven. He was aided by all of these former "AMC" characters except whom?

Answer: Laurel Banning

Jesse wanted to get Gillian to accept her fate and go to Heaven but he was not alone in helping get her to Heaven. He was aided by all of the following (as well as Travis Montgomery and Cindy Parker Chandler) except for Laurel Banning. While Laurel did die in 1996 due to a gunshot wound, she was not seen as an angel at this time to help out Gillian. Gillian eventually accepted her death and went to Heaven. Jesse's ghost stayed a little while longer to banter with Tad Martin.
9. Which singer sang at Jesse and Angie's wedding in May of 2008?

Answer: Ne-Yo

Ne-Yo serenaded Jesse and Angie at their third jaunt down the aisle by singing the songs, "Stop This World" and "Closer", from his third album, "Year of the Gentleman." Other hit songs from this album are "Mad", "Single", and "Miss Independent." Alicia Keys' song, "Like You'll Never See Me Again", was used in promos in January of 2008 to promote Jesse and Angie's return.
10. What was Jesse's occupation at Foxy's in the 1980s?

Answer: Waiter

Jesse had a brief career as a waiter at Foxy's. Foxy's was known as a sleazy establishment in Pine Valley. Nobody attends Foxy's anymore in Pine Valley.
