Jensen originated the role of Laurel Banning on "AMC" in December of 1992. Laurel was billed as a mysterious woman but one with a good heart, even when making mistakes. Jensen's other acting credits include the films "Mike Hammer: Murder Takes All" and "Sounds of Silence." She also gust starred on the TV show, "Moonlighting."

Answer: Felicity LaFortune

LaFortune, born on December 15th, 1954 in Oak Park, Illinois was recast as Laurel just after Jensen appeared in the role for a month. The show wanted to take the character in a different direction so they hired LaFortune. Other acting credits for LaFortune were guest starring stints on the TV series', "ER", "Sex and the City", and "The Sopranos."

Laurel had actually used a different name while in Pine Valley that was different from her birth name of Carla Delaney. She apparently used the name to mask her crime of embezzling money to pay for her daughter's schooling. Laurel's brother, Michael Delaney, came to town a couple of years after she did.

Laurel married a total of three times, in her life, and her first husband was Denny Benton. Denny and Laurel had one child together, Lily, and she ran away from him since he was abusive. Laurel killed Denny in self defense and Jack helped her dispose of his body. Laurel's second husband was Jack Montgomery and her third husband was Trevor Dillon.

Laurel was once married to Amanda Dillon's biological father, Trevor Dillon. While they were married, that meant she was Amanda's stepmother. However, she was not Amanda's stepmother for much longer since she was shot dead shortly after she and Trevor married.

Trevor and Laurel got engaged and married in a beautiful ceremony. Janet appeared at the church and the original idea was she would set a bomb off at the wedding in an attempt to kill them. However, the real life Oklahoma City bombing happened right around filming so the producers scrapped the idea so it would not look like they were being insensitive to the tragedy.

Instead, Janet tried to shoot at Trevor and Laurel but she ran away from the church, was struck by lightning, and presumed dead. Before viewers saw these episodes, the show did a PSA announcing why the story decision was scrapped.

Laurel appeared on a taping of "The Cutting Edge" with her brother, Michael Delaney, who had just come out of the closet. Michael wanted to tell his side of the story on the show and Laurel was there to support him. There was pandemonium, on the set, and Jason Sheffield, who was upset since he felt Michael turned his brother, Kevin, into being gay, aimed a gun at him.

He shot Laurel instead and she died at the hospital.

Videotapes were reviewed of the shooting, at the WRCW studio where "The Cutting Edge" was taped, and they saw Janet pick up the gun used to kill Laurel. The police arrested Janet on this evidence and she went on trial. Janet did not have a lawyer represent her but, in one scene, Jason took the stand and admitted he killed Laurel but aimed for Michael instead. Jason was immediately sent to prison.

At Laurel's funeral, Trevor became upset when he saw that Tad and Liza were there. Tad and Liza both said they wanted to pay their respects but Trevor did not want to hear it since Tad hosted "The Cutting Edge" and Liza managed the television station where Laurel was shot dead. Tad and Liza agreed to leave the funeral to honor Trevor's request that they not be there.

Trevor became smitten with a new woman in town named "Jane Cox" but he did not know that "Jane" was actually his arch nemesis, Janet Green. Janet agreed to undergo cosmetic surgery and get a brand new face to be released early for being a model prisoner. Laurel did some investigating and learned that "Jane" was Janet.

However, Janet fixed the brakes on her car and Laurel crashed, nearly dying. At the hospital, she tried to tell Jack that "Jane" was Janet but, due to speech impediments from the crash, she could not say the actual words.

However, Jack put the pieces together, from the little that Laurel could say to him, and stopped Trevor from marrying Janet.
