Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Bates Motel" (season 5 episode 10) Dylan told Norman that their mother was dead. What did Norman say?

Answer: I disagree.

Dylan's wife looked up "Bates Motel" on line and found out Norma Bates, her husband's mother, was dead. She told her husband. Dylan went to the Bates Motel and told the guests to leave because his brother was crazy. Dylan went into the house and saw his dead mother, Norma, sitting up to the table. He told Norman their mother was dead. Norman replied, "I disagree."
2. In "Hannibal" (season 2, episode 11) a violent event was shown the third time, after having been shown in two movies. What was it?

Answer: Freddie Lounds burning in a wheelchair

The movies "Manhunter" and "Red Dragon", both based on the book "Red Dragon", showed reporter Freddie Lounds burning in a wheelchair. The "Red Dragon" story was used again in the TV show "Hannibal" which again showed Freddie burning in a wheelchair rolling down the street, (This time Freddie was a woman.) because of that killer of families, nicknamed the Tooth Fairy by the FBI.
3. What late night variety show was produced by Roseanne (formerly Roseanne Barr Arnold)?

Answer: Saturday Night Special

For a few weeks in the 1990s, Roseanne was in the odd position of producing and starring in a prime time sitcom, "Roseanne", on ABC, and producing a late night variety show on Fox, "Saturday Night Special" (Apr 1, 1996 - May 18, 1996, 7 weekly episodes), which began in the United States a half hour before "Saturday Night Live". Memorable skits involved Roseanne imitating Demi Moore being interviewed about the movie "Striptease", and Zira from "Planet of the Apes" hosting a radio show.
4. Who was in love with Daphne for several years before she found out in "Frasier"?

Answer: Niles

Frasier's brother, Niles, hung around Frasier's apartment most of the time, possibly because he had a crush on Daphne, Martin's physical therapist. Eventually, Niles divorced his wife and married someone else, and Daphne got married. However, she discovered Niles liked her and they temporarily ran off together. Later, they returned, broke up with their spouses, and dated each other.
5. What movie actor played a character named Doobie Wheeler in the TV show "The Texas Wheelers" in 1974?

Answer: Mark Hamill

"The Texas Wheelers" concerned a missing father (Jack Elam) who returned to the family when the mother died, but he didn't have a job, so the oldest son (Gary Busey) had to support the family. Doobie Wheeler (Mark Hamill) played one of the boys, who in one episode watched a porno to prepare for a date.

The series was cancelled after four episodes aired. Four more were shown the following summer.
6. Long before "Friends" what was the first sitcom featuring Jennifer Aniston?

Answer: Ferris Bueller

Based on the movie "Ferris Bueller's Day Off" the TV show "Ferris Bueller" involved Ferris talking to the camera between incidents involving himself or his sister (Jennifer Aniston playing the part originated by Jennifer Grey). The episode I saw involved Bueller's sister getting scraped and bloody from falling off a bicycle, which I didn't think was funny.

The series lasted 13 episodes beginning August 1990.
7. Which TV series starring Roddy McDowell was based on a movie starring Roddy McDowell?

Answer: Planet of the Apes

Roddy McDowell played Cornelius, a talking chimpanzee, in the movie "Planet of the Apes", with Charlton Heston. He also starred in some of the sequels. On television the story began all over again with two astronauts from our time going into the future and getting stuck on planet Earth after talking apes took over.
8. Which of these TV shows was based on a John Belushi movie?

Answer: Delta House

"Delta House" was based on the John Belushi movie "Animal House". In the movie people belonged to a fraternity called Delta House, which was nicknamed Animal House. The college students were constantly in trouble. The TV series featuring many of the same actors was called "Delta House" (Jan 18 - Apr 21, 1979, 13 episodes). John Belushi had nothing to do with the TV series.
9. Which TV series showed a man lay an egg which grew to contain a full grown man?

Answer: Mork and Mindy

"Mork and Mindy" involved a man from another planet living on Earth. He eventually married his room mate Mindy, and they had a honeymoon. It was previously established that children on planet Ork were really old men who aged backwards. Somehow Mork, being an alien, got pregnant and ejected an egg, presumably from his belly button.

The egg rapidly grew until it was very large, and Mork's son (Jonathan Winters) hatched out of it.
10. In which of these TV series did aliens from another planet take over the world?

Answer: V

The miniseries "V" inspired the sequel miniseries "V: The Final Battle" which led to "V: The Series". Aliens with advanced technology came to Earth with large floating spaceships, looking like people, and claiming to be friendly. After the governments of the world turned themselves over to them, some people found out the aliens were really lizard people who swallowed live animals and wanted to enslave everyone. Years later another "V" series was made. (It was a metaphor for nations who collaborated with Nazi Germany.)
