"Doctor Who", a science fiction show about a time-travelling alien, began in 1963 and continued to be on TV regularly until 1989 when the series was cancelled. Then, in 2005, a new production team brought it back to life and the show was still going strong a decade later. "Dad's Army" was about a village and their Home Guard during World War II. It was broadcast between 1968 and 1977.

"The Flintstones" was first broadcast on ABC in September 1960, and surprisingly only appeared on TV screens for around six years (not including repeats) and just 166 episodes. There was also a number of specials and TV movies featuring the English speaking world's favourite cavemen and women, Fred, Barney, Wilma and Betty. The incidental characters mentioned are wonderful oddballs: Mr Slate, Fred and Barney's grouchy boss, Joe Rockhead, Fred's buddy with whom he goes to watch baseball and Sam Slagheap the pompous leader of Fred's secret society the Water Buffalos. My personal favourite however, is Wilma's mother, the ever antagonistic but wonderfully named Pearl Slaghoople!

One criticism of the documentary was the lack of focus of the issue of slavery as a reason for the civil war.

The cart ran him over. He got the Queen's Commendation for Bravery Award for his heroism)

Both Woodys shared the same birthday, July 23 and Woody Boyd is from Hanover, Indiana, which is where Woody Harrelson went to college. Harrelson was nominated five times for an Emmy Award and won once for this character. There have been many memorable characters and a spinoff from "Cheers" - Frasier Crane the psychiatrist who was introduced as barmaid Diane's love interest got his own show called "Frasier." The theme song for the show is called "Where Everybody Knows Your Name."

Premiering as a 'made-for-television' movie in January, 1979, "Salvage 1" became a series that lasted from January 20, 1979 until November 11, 1979. The show centered around junkman Harry Broderick (Andy Griffith), whose dream it was to build a rocketship and go to the moon to recover the scrap metal left there by the previous lunar landings. Broderick realizes this dream early on and goes on to have other adventures throughout the rest of the series' run. Joel Higgings, who went on to star in "Silver Spoons" as Edward W. Stratton III, played Addison 'Skip' Carmichael, a former astronaut and Broderick's son-in-law, on the show.

This was, for my money, perhaps the cleverest show about teenagers since "Dobie Gillis", a show it owes a lot to, to appear on American TV. Even "Dobie", however, owes a lot to good ol' Arch!
