Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After Charlie was rescued, he didn't say anything for a while. When he finally did speak, the first thing he said was, "I didn't ___ anything". What is the missing word?

Answer: see

Jack and Kate brought Charlie back to the caves to recuperate after barely escaping death, but Charlie never said a word the whole time. Jack tried to get Charlie to tell him what had happened, and Charlie finally said, "I didn't see anything". He also didn't hear anything and didn't remember the ordeal. What he did know was that they only wanted Claire, leaving speculation as to who "they" were.
2. When Jack and Locke first realized that Charlie and Claire were missing, what personal item did they first spot in the jungle?

Answer: Claire's bag

At the very beginning of this episode, everyone realized that Ethan was not one of them and that something had happened to Charlie and Claire. Jack and Locke ran into the jungle to find them, and instead found Claire's bag, as she had been planning to go back to the beach. Locke also found three pairs of footprints and believed there had been a struggle, leading to the conclusion that Ethan had taken Charlie and Claire.
3. What did Walt call Locke in his defense, when Michael was complaining about him?

Answer: A warrior

Michael was really angry with Locke over Locke not allowing him to be a part of the search party, and he was griping to Hurley about it. Walt decided to defend Locke and called him a warrior. He also said that Locke could hunt and track, so Michael should listen to him. Obviously, that whole speech didn't sit too well with Michael.
4. In the "real world", which family member did Boone run a business with?

Answer: His mother

As they were hiking through the jungle, Locke asked Boone what he did in the real world. Boone stated that he ran a wedding business, or "empire" as he called it, with his mother. Earlier, Boone had asked Locke the same question, and he learned that Locke had worked for a box company, which of course Boone didn't believe.
5. When Locke and Boone discovered the metal hatch, Boone originally thought that it might be wreckage from the plane.

Answer: True

It was getting dark and it seemed that Locke and Boone had gotten pretty lost. Boone decided that he wanted to go back to camp, and Locke told him to go ahead. Locke threw him a flashlight, but Boone missed it and the flashlight clanged on something metal on the ground.

As they investigated, Locke declared that it was steel, and Boone wondered if it was wreckage from the plane. The episode ended with Locke and Boone trying to discover exactly what it was.
6. During one of Jack and his father's arguments, his father told Jack that he had been hard on him. But, that was how you make a soft metal into what?

Answer: Steel

In a flashback, Jack's father gave Jack a document to sign clearing them both of any evidence of negligence pertaining to the patient's death. Jack became angry and accused his father of being impaired while operating. His father made an effort to persuade Jack, telling him that he knew he had been hard on Jack, but "it is how you make a soft metal into steel".

His father also promised that he would never operate drunk again, as being a surgeon was his life and he couldn't bear to have that taken away from him. Finally, Jack signed the document.
7. What was the telltale sign that Jack's father had been drinking when he went to operate?

Answer: His hands were shaking

After the unsuccessful operation had passed, Jack's father expressed his displeasure at Jack taking over the patient in his Operating Room. Jack informed him that one of the OR nurses had gone to Jack and told him that his father's hands were shaking.

In the conversation, his father revealed that he had been in a restaurant when he was called to the OR, prompting Jack to ask how many drinks he had had.
8. Did Sawyer tell Sayid that he had worked on his transmission antenna while Sayid had been gone?

Answer: No

When Sawyer found out that Sayid had returned, he decided to confront Sayid and told him that the island had served him some "cosmic payback" in return for Sayid's treatment of Sawyer in "Confidence Man". Sayid told Sawyer about Danielle Rousseau, "the others", and what he had heard in the jungle.

As Sawyer left, he told Sayid that he had kept his signal fire burning on the beach. Now wasn't that nice of him?
9. What color were the strips of material that Locke was using to tie about trees so they didn't get lost?

Answer: Red

Locke got the idea to tear some red fabric into strips and tie them around the trunks of trees they passed. He did this to mark their progress and to keep them from getting lost. Later, Boone mentioned that the crew guys that wore red shirts and went on missions with the captain on the television show "Star Trek" always got killed. Locke remarked that the captain seemed pretty poor.
10. What was unique about the patient who died under Jack and his father's care?

Answer: She was pregnant

Jack and his father were at a hearing concerning the whole matter of the patient dying. Jack's father gave his account and declared that in his professional opinion, the damage had been irreversible. It was clear that this hearing was just a formality, but before it ended it was brought up that the patient had been pregnant. Jack's father had been aware of this, but judging by the look on Jack's face, he had not been. Jack then suddenly announced that he wanted to revise his statement, and told the truth about what had really happened, thus destroying his father's career forever.
