Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character has never delivered a closing monologue?

Answer: Sheridan

"The Gathering" - Takashima; "Chrysalis" - Sinclair; "The Fall of Night" - Ivanova; "Z'ha'dum" - G'Kar; "Rising Star" - Delenn; "Sleeping in Light" - Ivanova.
2. Who is the only character to deliver two closing monologues?

Answer: Ivanova

Ivanova delivered the closing monologues for seasons 2 and 5.
3. The closing monologue for season 1 is short and sweet. What is it?

Answer: Nothing's the same anymore.

This is very appropriate for Sinclair to say since many changes will occur in the second season, including Sinclair being reassigned. This also refers back to what G'Kar said to Catherine Sakai in "Mind War" - "No one here is exactly what he appears".
4. Who said the following: "All life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments...of revelation."

Answer: G'Kar

This is from G'Kar's monologue in "Z'ha'dum" - "It was the end of the Earth year 2260, and the war had paused, suddenly and unexpectedly...All around us, it was as if the universe were holding its breath, waiting. All of life can be broken down into moments of transition or moments...of revelation.

This had the feeling of both...G'Quan wrote: 'There is a greater darkness than the one we fight. It is the darkness of the soul that has lost its way. The war we fight is not against powers and principalities, it is against chaos and despair. Greater than the death of flesh is the death of hope, the death of dreams. Against this peril we can never surrender.

The future is all around us, waiting in moments of transition, to be born in moments of revelation. No one knows the shape of that future, or where it will take us. We know only that it is always born in pain.'"
5. Finish the quote: "Because sometimes, peace is another word for ______."

Answer: surrender

This is part of Ivanova's monologue at the end of season 2, although it is actually succeeded by an ISN report - "It was the end of the year 2259 and the war was upon us. As anticipated, a few days after the Earth-Centauri treaty was announced, the Centauri widened their war to include many of the Non-Aligned Worlds. And there was another war brewing closer to home.

A personal one, whose cost would be higher than any of us could imagine...We came to this place, because Babylon 5 was out last, best hope for peace.

By the end of 2259, we knew that it had failed. But in so doing it became something greater. As the war expanded, it became our last, best hope for victory, because sometimes peace is another word for surrender, and because secrets have a way of getting out."
6. Which season's closing monologue is not delivered in the last episode of the season? Hint: 'Dawn of a new age'

Answer: 4

Since "Babylon 5"'s contract was picked up by TNT for a fifth season after WB failed to renew, the original series finale, "Sleeping in Light", the 4th season finale was replaced by "The Deconstruction of Falling Stars". This episode does not have a monologue, however Delenn delivers the closing monologue in the previous episode, "Rising Star".
7. Which of the following is not mentioned as part of the future events listed in one of the monologues?

Answer: Destruction of Babylon 5

Here is Delenn's monologue from "Rising Star" - "It was the end of the Earth year 2261 and it was the dawn of a new age for all of us. It was the end of one chapter and the beginning of another. The next 20 years would see great changes, great joy and great sorrow.

The telepath war. The Drakh war. The New Alliance would waver and crack, but in the end it will hold, because what is built endures, and what is loved endures. And Babylon 5...Babylon 5 endures."
8. Who delivered the closing monologue for "The Gathering"?

Answer: Takashima

Takashima proudly pronnounces her statement over the station comms - "This is Lieutenant Commander Laurel Takashima. Our docking bays stand ready to receive you. Babylon 5 is open for business."
9. The closing monologue of the series is a voice over of images of the characters, aged 20 years, carrying out their normal activities. What is the first scene we see?

Answer: Babylon 5 is destroyed.

Here's the order: (1) Everyone gathers to bid farewell to the station. JMS turns out the lights and the station blows up. (2) Garibaldi returns to his family on Mars. (3) Franklin working as head of xenobiology. (4) Zack is seen working for Emperor Cotto. (5) Ivanova accepts the position of Ranger One. (6) Delenn watches the sun come up on Minbar.
10. Finish the last line of the series: "As for Delenn, every morning for as long as she lived, Delenn got up before dawn and ________."

Answer: watched the sun come up

This closing monologue from "Sleeping in Light", delivered by Ivanova, always brings tears to my eyes -- "An expedition to Coriana space found Sheridan's ship a few days later, but they never found him. All the airlocks were sealed, but there was no trace of him inside.

Some of the Minbari believe he'll come back someday, but I never saw him again in my lifetime...Babylon 5 was the last of the Babylon stations. There would never be another. It changed the future...and it changed us. It taught us that we have to create the future...or others will do it for us.

It showed us that we have care for one another, because if we don't, who will? And that true strength sometimes comes from the most unlikely places. Mostly, though, I think it gave us hope...that there can always be new beginnings...even for people like us."
