Charles has a long, sordid history with his ex-wife, Eleanor, played by Kathryn Hahn. After the divorce, Charles lives in her basement. Later, Eleanor blackmails Charles to get out of a lawsuit. She says she will destroy a sperm sample Charles had created prior to his vasectomy if Charles does not help her get out of the suit.

Amy reconnects with Teddy, played by Kyle Bornheimer, at the tactical village exercise and they date for a second time. After several months, Amy breaks up with him because he's one of the most boring men in the world. More years pass, but Teddy still carries a torch for Amy. He even tries to propose to her on the day of her wedding to Jake.

Raymond attempts to enlist Frederick's assistance when Sharon Jeffords goes into labor early while she waits for Terry at the precinct. It's a difficult task because Frederick, played by Nick Offerman, demands that Raymond admits he threw away a valuable wooden duck that was a prized possession of Frederick's. We discover in the end that Raymond didn't just toss the duck in the trash; he tosses it off a bridge.

Terry is as perplexed as the rest of the precinct as to why Veronica, played by Kimberly Hebert Gregory, is upset with him as she audits the precinct. Gina and Amy grill the Sergeant on his actions to discover what went wrong with their break up.

Roger "drops anchor" frequently as a regional airline pilot. Jake and Charles discover that one of his ports in a storm is the Montreal bartender, Chantelle, played by Elle Russ. Chantelle frames Roger by planting drugs in his luggage when she finds out he was cheating on her and a few other women.

Gina and Charles wake up next to each other at the end of season one. They have a purely physical relationship, which both decide to end when their trysts are discovered by the rest of the precinct.
