Answer: (Two Words -- and it's yet another reference to classic TV history!)
Question 5 of 10

Which novelist is he quoting? Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. The familiar (and usually safe!) DNA laboratory at CSI headquarters is severely damaged in a freak accident in episode 22, "Play With Fire". Hint

Question 8 of 10

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. A number of real-life stand-up comedians appear in episode 20, "Last Laugh". Who is NOT one of them?

Answer: Jay Mohr

Jay Mohr did appear on an episode of "CSI: Miami," but we don't see him in this episode at all.
2. In "Last Laugh," a stand-up comic named Dougie Max dies on stage -- literally, not figuratively! -- because someone has added something toxic to the bottled water he drinks during his act. Ironically, the chemical agent that kills Dougie is normally used as medication, not poison. What medical problem was this chemical agent designed to treat?

Answer: headaches

We're told that Dougie Max's bottled water was tainted by naratriptamine, a chemical compound used to treat migraine headaches. One of his fellow comedians laced the cap of Dougie's water bottle with 12 times the recommended dosage of the stuff, which proved to be fatal almost immediately.

(For the record, I can't find any online reference to such a drug, so it's a safe bet that the "CSI" writers made it up.)
3. In "Last Laugh," the killer of comedian Dougie Max confesses on a stage in front of a crowd.

Answer: True

Comedian Michael Borland (Bobcat Goldthwait) is in the middle of a set when he notices that Gil Grissom is in the audience. He realizes that he has been found out, and actually admits to having killed Dougie Max right in front of the comedy club crowd!
4. At the start of episode 21, "Forever", Gil Grissom (William Petersen) and Catherine Willows (Marg Helgenberger) are called in to investigate the death of a woman who was seemingly killed by a horse. Gil tells Catherine that their first step is to examine the first witness to the woman's death. After Catherine asks, "The horse?", what is Grissom's two-word reply?

Answer: of course

A nod to the theme song of "Mister Ed", a hugely popular sitcom about a talking horse that ran from 1961 to 1966. The first few lines of the theme song are "A horse is a horse/Of course, of course/And no one can talk to a horse, of course..."

Again, the "CSI" writers repeatedly state in their DVD commentaries that they like to pepper their scripts with references to their favorite classic TV shows.
5. Gil Grissom, in "Forever", once again shows off his near-encyclopedic knowledge of just about everything when he shares this quote about horses with the veterinarian helping him with his case: "A horse is dangerous at both ends and uncomfortable in the middle." Which novelist is he quoting?

Answer: Ian Fleming

Grissom goes on to add that he read Fleming's "James Bond" novels in his youth...but oddly, that quote doesn't come from any of the novels. According to my research, Fleming apparently said those words during an interview with a London newspaper. Hmmm...
6. In the "B" story of "Forever", Sara Sidle (Jorja Fox) and Warrick Brown (Gary Dourdan) investigate an apparent double suicide. They find a white substance on the clothing of both the teenage boy and girl found dead in Death Valley. What does this substance turn out to be?

Answer: baby vomit

To make a long story short, the teen-aged couple were aided and abetted in their "suicide pact" by the girl's mother, who planned on raising their baby as her own after the two were dead. As the couple were preparing to kill themselves, the girl's mother allowed each of them to hold their baby one last time...and apparently, the baby spit up a little on each of her parents.
7. The familiar (and usually safe!) DNA laboratory at CSI headquarters is severely damaged in a freak accident in episode 22, "Play With Fire". An explosion occurred because someone left an unidentified chemical under the fume hood. Who made the mistake that wound up hospitalizing DNA Lab Tech extraordinare Greg Sanders (Eric Szmanda)?

Answer: Catherine Willows

Catherine -- who, oddly enough, was placed in charge of investigating the cause of the explosion -- had placed a sample of some kind of volatile liquid under the fume hood after a long night of CSI'ing. Little did she know that the hot plate under the fume hood had been left on accidentally.

The liquid was eventually heated to the point that it exploded, more or less wrecking the lab and sending quite a bit of shrapnel into the unsuspecting body of one Greg Sanders.
8. Grissom, rather uncharacteristically, refers to Sara Sidle by an affectionate nickname after she is injured in the explosion that wrecks the DNA lab in "Play With Fire". What does he call her?

Answer: Honey

Sara is in shock after the explosion, sitting motionless on the curb outside of CSI headquarters as the fire department and EMT's attend to the fire and the wounded. Grissom approaches her and notices that she has a serious laceration on the palm of her hand. "Honey, this doesn't look good," he says...and the fans waiting for Grissom and Sara to enter into a romantic relationship ran wild in the streets! =)
9. The third season finale is called "Inside the Box," a reference to a safe deposit box that is a point of interest for a bold group of bank robbers; casino owner Sam Braun (Scott Wilson); and, of course, our intrepid CSI team. Which of the following things was NOT in the safe deposit box in question?

Answer: money

A silk scarf, a pair of ceremonial "ribbon-cutting" scissors, and a decent amount of blood were in the safe deposit box that was snatched during an intense bank robbery...and all of it led directly to Sam Braun, who is revealed in this episode to be Catherine Willows' father!
10. Which of the following things did NOT happen in the third season finale, "Inside the Box"?

Answer: Warrick Brown succumbed to his gambling addiction.

Detective Cyrus Lockwood (Jeffrey D. Sams) is killed in the bank robbery. The Sam/Catherine reveal is the emotional climax of the episode. The final scene depicts Grissom heading into surgery.

Warrick doesn't gamble in this episode at all.

I hope you liked my season three quizzes. If you want to see more, let me know. I'll happily put together more on seasons four and five if I get enough requests!
