Berkeley was Sandy and Kirsten's alma mater. Sandy had desperately wanted Seth to become a Berkeley man, but Seth had other plans. Ryan and Marissa both applied and both got in. They went to visit Berkeley in "The College Try".

We were introduced to Taylor at the beginning of the third season, and the gang hated her at first, probably because she always sided with the Dean of Discipline and seemed to have it out for them, especially Marissa. Summer saw Taylor kissing the dean in "The Last Waltz". Taylor ended up becoming friends with "the core four" (as she referred to them) and in the fourth season she dated Ryan.

Johnny introduced Chili to Marissa as "Dennis", and then Chili expressed his desire for the nickname to catch on. And it did. Chili, for those who don't remember, was "alternate universe Seth" -meaning he was the Seth equivalent in Marissa's new world at public school.

He went back to the name Dennis in "The Heavy Lifting" after Johnny's death, because he said Johnny never liked the nickname.

Kaitlin Cooper returned to the O.C. in "The Sister Act" and brought Justin and his brother and their friends with her. She had stolen money from them and they wanted it back. But Justin was actually in love with her and she began to warm up to him in "The Heavy Lifting". He drove her back to school in that episode and then we never saw him again.

Anna had been part of a love triangle with Seth and Summer in the first season. Seth ran into her at Brown in "The College Try" and she decided to help him win Summer back. Phase one of her plan was to talk to Summer and convince her that nothing was going on with her and Seth; he only loved Summer. Phase two called for Seth taking Anna to the prom to make Summer jealous. Phase three revealed the true nature of Anna's plan - to make Seth realize he had absolutely no choice but to come clean with Summer about everything that had been going on with him.

Matt Ramsey (played by Jeff Hepher) was Sandy's right-hand man at the Newport Group. He dated a girl named Mia Griffin, who was the daughter of a businessman that Sandy wanted to woo. Sandy had Matt use Mia to get to her father, so she broke up with him after convincing her father to get on board with Sandy's plan. Ryan became involved with a few girls this season, Neil (Summer's father) dated Julie mostly, and Luke (Marissa's ex-boyfriend) was not in this season.

Sandy found Ryan's mother Dawn in "The Journey" to invite her to Ryan's birthday party. She wasn't quite ready to see him yet, but sent a letter. Ryan went to Albuquerque to invite her to his high school graduation in "The Dawn Patrol".
