Answer: Sgt. Hank Voight

The character Hank Voight, is played by Jason Beghe. He is the chief of the Intelligence Unit. He has a brutal exterior, however, is fiercely loyal to his team and is highly dedicated to his crime victims. Voight was first introduced as a "dirty cop", however, that persona was later to be revealed as part of an undercover operation to take down organized crime syndicates and other "dirty cops".

When Antonio's son is kidnapped by Pulpo, the whole team rallies around to find him and to bring Pulpo to justice. In a later episode, Pulpo is used by the same unit to assist in another case. He then escapes and is later apprehended and almost killed by Voight, until he is stopped by Jay Halstead, at Antonio's request.

Sgt. Trudy Platt, played by Amy Morton, was initially a uniformed patrol officer who worked with Antonio Dawson, before taking a desk job. She is eventually married to Randy McHolland, a character from "Chicago Fire".

While most patrol officers are recruited into the unit after proving themselves on the streets. Ruzek, played by Patrick John Flueger, was so successful in the undercover operation that Olinsky recommended he be made a permanent member of the squad. Voight agreed and thus began his career in the Intelligence Unit. Ruzek's fsther, "Disco Bob", is also a long-time patrol officer.

Answer: Erin Lindsay

Det. Erin Lindsay, played by Sophia Bush, had a turbulent childhood. Her mother was a drug addict who neglected her and she therefore, became a juvenile delinquent. Lindsay also had a half-brother, Teddy, who was taken by a pedophile ring at 13. Lindsay was taken in by Voight as a teenager, and later became a police officer, eventually, ending up in the Intelligence Unit. Lindsay later left the show at the end of Season 4 to join the FBI in New York.

Answer: Jay Halstead

Lindsay and Halstead are partners in the unit and the attraction between them is evident from the first episode. Voight doesn't allow relationships among his detectives, preventing them from having a full scale relationship with each other. Although Lindsay fears losing her job, they do eventually become a couple.

The relationship is on again off again until Lindsay's departure in Season 4.

When we first meet Ruzek he is engaged, however, upon his transfer to the Intelligence Unit, he is attracted to Burgess and his engagement ends. Immediately, he begins an affair with Officer Burgess, preventing her from being recruited to the unit, until she is later shot in the line of duty.

The two become engaged, but do not ultimately get married, as Burgess calls it off. She later becomes pregnant by Ruzek, however she loses the baby while apprehending a suspect.

Olinsky, played by Elias Koteas, has been estranged from his wife for several years, however, in order to remain close to his daughter, he moves into the family garage. They have an impromptu father/daughter dance in the garage in Season 1.

During the first two seasons of "Chicago P.D.", there a few instances of pedophilia rings, and serial rapists. Voight reaches out to Olivia Benson, of the NYPD SVU to assist with these cases. Several of the squad members of the SVU travel to New York to assist.

The NYPD SVU also asks for help from Voight's team in a few crossovers where the NY victims match Chicago cases. One of the more memorable of these crossovers was the Gregory Yates storyline.
