Granada originally intended to make just 16 episodes of Tony Warren's creation, then called 'Florizel Street'. The name was changed after a tea lady commented that the title sounded like disinfectant!

RADA trained actress Sue Nicholls began playing Gail Potter's mother Audrey in 1979. Sue had previously played waitress Marilyn Gates in the original series of 'Crossroads'.
