Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which CSI joined the team in "Pilot"?

Answer: Holly Gribbs

Holly Gribbs joined the team fresh from the Academy. She couldn't cope well with the job though. During the end of her first night she was assigned to a robbery scene. Warrick was supposed to shadow her but she said she would be fine. The suspect returned to the scene and shot Holly.

She dies in episode number 2 "Cool Change" and was replaced by Sara Sidle played by Jorja Fox. Captain Jim Brass was the head of CSI and later moved to Homicide and Catherine Willows is one of the CSI's (most senior next to Grissom).
2. Who was the head of Las Vegas CSI in "Pilot"?

Answer: Jim Brass

Jim Brass was the head of CSI in "Pilot". It was he who ordered Warrick to keep an eye on Holly until Nick made his 'CSI Level 3'. Gil Grissom was the supervisor of the night shift and became head of CSI in episode 2 "Cool Change" when Brass moved to Homicide. Conrad Eckley is a member of the day shift. He doesn't get along with Grissom very much.
3. According to the head of CSI in "Pilot", Holly Gribbs was which number person he was forced the hire?

Answer: 5th

Brass asked her why she thought she belonged in one of the best crimelabs in the country and stated he had to hire because of her mother (see Question 5) and this was the 5th time he was forced to do so.
4. Who played Holly Gribbs?

Answer: Chandra West

She was played by Chandra West, as seen in the opening credits.
5. What was the occupation of Holly Gribbs' mother?

Answer: Lieutenant in Traffic

Brass asks her whether her mother, Jane Gribbs, was a Traffic Lieutenant. She was. Brass then asked her why she thought she belonged at CSI stating he had been forced to hire her (see question 2, this was not the first time he was forced to hire someone) because of her mother.
6. Nick and Warrick both solved 99 cases at the start of the episode. The first one to solve the 100th crime becomes a Level 3 Investigator, involving higher paycheck and more vacation. Who reached it first?

Answer: Nick Stokes

Jim Brass got Warrick off of a case after he made a deal with a judge for a warrant and assigned him to shadow Holly Gribbs. Instead he went on a gambling tour for the judge and Holly Gribbs got shot on the scene. Nick solved his 100th crime in the meantime.
7. What was the name of the suspect in the apparent suicide case Grissom was investigating?

Answer: Paul Millander

Paul Millander got off the hook. He had used his hand for malls for Halloween articles. His fingerprints where thus widespread. In later episodes Grissom finds out that Millander was guilty after all when they find another victim killed in the same style.

But Millander out smarts Grissom over and over again. He appears one final time in 2:13 "Identity Crisis" where he appears as a judge. Grissom finds out that he changed his identity and used to be female in his early life. Paul Millander kills himself in the same way as he staged the suicides, all men born on the day that his father was killed (17th of August) counting down from 1959 (the first victim).
8. Which of the characters has a gambling problem?

Answer: Warrick Brown

Warrick has serious gambling problems and bets on most things. He made a bet for a judge when he was supposed to shadow Holly. She got shot and died later in "Cool Change".
9. William L. Petersen plays the character Gil Grissom. What is his job on the production team for the show? (applying to "Pilot")

Answer: Producer

William Petersen is one of the producers of the show. The Executive Producer is Jerry Bruckheimer. Now (halfway through season 3) he's Co-Executive Producer.
10. Catherine and Warrick investigate a case in which a man claims to have shot a drunk friend of his wife in self-defense. Warrick believes it was murder. What part of the body eventually proves that the husband was lying?

Answer: A toenail

The husband claims the drunk friend broke back into the house by kicking in the door. He shot him to defend himself and his family. But Warrick finds a piece of toenail inside the victim's shoes. The victim was wearing socks. Warrick suspects that the husband shot the man in cold blood and then kicked in the door himself using the victims shoes, to make it appear it was in self defense. Warrick arranges a warrant by making a deal with a judge.

This sets Brass off and he removes Warrick from the case. Grissom finds a clipped toenail in the husband's bathroom and confirms that the toenail inside the shoe was of the husband.

The husband gets arrested for murder. Their success is overshadowed by the shooting of Holly Gribbs. I hope you liked my quiz.
