Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many episodes of 'Crusade' were filmed and aired?

Answer: Thirteen

The first season was meant to have sixteen episodes.
2. The first five episodes filmed were the last five aired.

Answer: True

The network wanted an "introductory" episode that shows the mission getting underway, and in addition they decided to change the uniforms. This caused a reshuffle of the airing order, and also caused quite a few continuity problems.
3. In the first episode filmed ("Racing the Night") Galen quotes a phrase from the Bible and Gideon identifies the book this quote comes from. What book is this?

Answer: Job

Gideon: "Where do you go, when you leave?"

Galen: "Walking to and fro in the earth, and up and down it".

Gideon: "Job."

Galen: "In the end it's all the story of Job, isn't it?"

Gideon: "Some days it feels our faith is being tested, same as his."

Galen: "And where do you put your faith, Mathew? In science? Your luck? This ship?"

Gideon: "I don't know."

Galen: "Well if this is the story of Job a great deal of people are being inconvenienced for your benefit. I hope you appreciate it."
4. What is the name of the ship in 'Crusade?'

Answer: Excalibur

5. Which "Babylon 5" TV movie provided the back story for "Crusade"?

Answer: "Call to Arms"

In my personal opinion this was the second most boring thing ever to come out of the B5 universe. The most boring was "River of Souls".
6. In the episode "The Well of Forever" Galen says a eulogy for his dead beloved. Part of what he says is a quote from a Shakespeare play. Which one?

Answer: Cymbelline

Yup, that's right, the answer is the one most people have never heard of. The play takes place in ancient Britain, while the Romans were invading the last remaining outpost of the old Celtic order. The quote comes from a beautiful poem that occurs towards the end of the play. Here's an excerpt:

"Care no more to clothe and eat;

To thee the reed is as the oak.

The sceptre, learning, physic, must

All follow this and come to dust.

All lovers young, all lovers must

Consign to thee and come to dust".
7. What is the name of the person Galen is mourning for?

Answer: Isabelle

She was a fellow technomage, and the details of her demise are described in the novel "Babylon 5- The Passing of the Technomages, Book I: Casting Shadows" by Jean Cavelos (a great book, and the sequels were even better. And this from someone who generally hates books that are television tie-ins).
8. Which "Crusade" regular was also a regular on "Babylon 5"?

Answer: Captain Elizabeth Lochley

She was the Captain of 'Babylon 5' in its fifth season. She only appeared in three "Crusade" episodes.
9. What is unique about Lieutenant John Matheson?

Answer: He is a telepath

A blind, telepathic technomage might have made a very interesting character! Then again, maybe not.

In the time of "Babylon 5" telepaths were not allowed to serve in the military, but the Telepath War changed this.
10. Which actor had his father play a major guest character in one of the episodes?

Answer: Peter Woodward

His father, Edward Woodward, played the character of Alwyn in the episode "The Long Road".
11. How many years does the crew have to find a cure to the Drakh plague?

Answer: Four

The Drakh plague is expected to take five years before it wipes out all life on Earth, but the crew only have four years to find a cure: after that, as Gideon promised the alien governments ("Racing the Night") Excalibur will return to Earth in order to enforce the quarantine.
12. Which character has a sister trapped on Earth?

Answer: Dr. Sarah Chambers

13. Whose ex-wife do we meet in the course of the series?

Answer: Max Eilerson

In the episode "The Rules of the Game".
14. What is Max Eilerson's specialty?

Answer: Linguistics

15. When Galen visits Dureena in her quarters, he asks her why she has made everything so small. What is her reaction?

Answer: She tells him she's made everything the right size

From the episode "Well of Forever".
16. What sci-fi series is the episode "Visitors From Down the Street" a spoof of?

Answer: The X-Files

17. How did Gideon come to be in possession of the "Apocalypse Box"?

Answer: He won it in a game of poker

As seen in one of his visions in the episode "Path of Sorrows".
18. Which "Babylon 5" character appeared in the episode "Each Night I Dream of Home"?

Answer: None of these

"Each Night I Dream of Home" was the last episode of "Crusade" to air, and it featured the B5 character of Dr. Steven Franklin.
19. Complete the quote: "There's always hope. It's the one thing..."

Answer: "...nobody's figured out how to kill yet."

Galen says this to Dureena in "Racing the Night".
20. What was the name of the last script completed for the show (but never filmed)?

Answer: End of the Line

"Appearances..." was an episode of "Crusade" that did make it to the screen. The other two incorrect answers are episodes of 'DS9.'
"End of the Line" was slated to be the sixteenth and last episode of "Crusade"'s first season. Sadly, we will never get to see that episode, or find out what other wonderful surprises the great maker had in store for us...
