Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Religious talk show

Answer: The Heaven and Earth Show

"The Heaven and Earth Show" ran on BBC from 1998 to 2008. Each episode was broadcast on Sunday morning.
Although the title and the time slot (Sunday morning between 10 AM and 11 AM) point to a predilection for traditional Christianity, all types of religion could be viewed. In one episode the concept of halal food (as defined in the Islamic religion) was discussed, while another episode concentrated on theist beliefs and New Age spiritual findings.
One of the recurring items was an interview with some celebrity (for instance Dolly Parton or Pierce Brosnan) about their life and how their spiritual beliefs have helped them in times of difficulty.
2. Reality show investigating haunted houses

Answer: Scariest Places on Earth

"Scariest Places on Earth" ran for several years on Fox TV, starting in 2000. Host was Linda Blair (the actress best known as Regan in "The Exorcist"), and the main premise was sending some people (in most cases a small family) to a famous location reputed to be the site of paranormal activity. The show then zoomed in on the amateur investigators and how they reacted to scary events. Locations included for instance Alcatraz in the USA, Bran Castle in Romania or the Colosseum in Italy.
One of the main criticisms was that all the paranormal phenomena were tricked.
3. Documentary combining geography and history

Answer: How the Earth Was Made

"How the Earth Was Made" ran for two seasons on the History Channel (2009-2010). It explored some of the most stunning geographical sites and their history: from the Grand Canyon to the Mariana Trench, and from Krakatoa to the Sahara. The documentary also reconstructed events from the distant past, such as the formation of the earth or a massive volcanic eruption in Siberia at the end of the time of dinosaurs.
4. Sci-Fi series about a stranded alien who has to learn compassion

Answer: Hard Time On Planet Earth

The premise to "Hard Time on Planet Earth" (1989) is that an intergalactic warrior can't keep his calm and regularly has a violent tantrum. Accused of having killed one of the members of the Council, he is exiled to Earth - a place he only knows by watching some TV series. So the alien (who calls himself Jesse) may commit some gaffes, such as emptying ATM's without having any money on the bank. Martin Kove, the actor who portrayed the villain John Kreese in the three movies "The Karate Kid", played the main character.

The series was discontinued because of the poor reviews, but perhaps also because the storyline came to a logical end.
5. Sci-fi series: are these friendly aliens really friendly?

Answer: Earth: Final Conflict

"Earth: Final Conflict" (1997-2002) was developed upon some unfinished scripts by Gene Roddenberry, the creator of the "Star Trek" franchise. Gene's widow created this TV series that ran from 1997 until 2002. The story starts with the arrival of the Taelons, a group of aliens who at first seem rather friendly.

But as some resistance fighters soon discover, the Taelons need to abduct humans and perform experiments on these captives in order to restore the Taelons' health.
6. Animated parody on "Lord of the Rings"

Answer: Muddle Earth

"Muddle Earth" (2010) ran for 26 episodes. David Jason voiced the part of the clumsy wizard Randalf, who summoned a young boy to help in the fight against evil lurking in Mount Boom - a volcanic mountain that was known to scare the surrounding creatures by loud "BOOM" sounds. Elves, trolls, dragons and talking trees chose sides in this medieval fantasy.
7. Animated series inspired by "Flash Gordon"

Answer: Defenders of the Earth

"Defenders of the Earth" ran in 1986 for 65 episodes. Ming the Merciless (voiced by Ron Feinberg) wanted to take over all natural resources from the earth and use them for his own benefit. But he was opposed by a quartet of superheroes: Flash Gordon (role by Lou Richards), the Phantom (spoken by Peter Richman), Mandrake the Magician (role by Peter Renaday) and Mandrake's bodyguard Lothar (voiced by Buster Jones).
8. Talk show examining various conspiracy theories

Answer: Flat Earth and Other Hot Potatoes

Patricia Steere was the host of the talk show "Flat Earth and Other Hot Potatoes", which ran from 2015 until 2019. In each episode, she interviewed someone about a controversial theory, such as the role of the Illuminati, the belief that earth is flat, the end of times and so on.
9. Sitcom about survivor of pandemic

Answer: The Last Man on Earth

Between 2015 and 2018 Fox Television broadcast "The Last Man on Earth". The first episode showed Phil Miller (played by Will Forte), who survived a pandemic and got the impression that he was all alone on the world. When he decided to end it all by committing suicide, he finally noticed another survivor: Carol Pilbasian (role by Kirsten Schaal), who insisted that Phil marry her to repopulate the earth. Later on they met some other survivors...
10. Documentary about animals and their habitats

Answer: Planet Earth

David Attenborough produced the amazing documentary "Planet Earth" in 2006, and was also the narrator on the BBC. In eleven episodes, Attenborough explored various habitats with the most wondrous animals (for instance snow leopards in the episode "Mountains": it took three years to get actual footage of snow leopards).

This was the first documentary in true high-definition television, and it won the Emmy for "Outstanding Documentary". In 2016, a sequel was filmed ("Planet Earth II") in 4K HDTV.
