Erica's Women in Media Award Speech Quiz

While it is true there were three nominees at the Women in Media ceremony vying for the Woman of the Year Award, Brooke was not one of the nominees. Erica, Liza, and Alise Flynn all received nominations. Erica and Alise sparred for a little bit before the ceremony officially began and then Liza Colby walked in and Alise offered to get a group shot of them since they were the nominees. Erica said she would rather be shot and walked away from Alise. Liza saw Erica and wished her good luck so Erica commented on how hypocritical Liza was, considering Liza had fired her from "The Cutting Edge", and then accidentally hit Liza's hand that had a glass of wine in it. Erica blamed Liza for ruining her dress.

Myrtle saw Erica was upset and Erica wined that she felt as if she fell into a vat of red wine. Erica asked Myrtle to go to The Boutique and get her a new dress but Myrtle stated there was not enough time. Erica got even more irate and told Myrtle, if she was not back in time, she will stall the ceremony and they will wait for her. Myrtle arrived a little bit later with a plain red dress, which Erica disliked but said she would make herself look radiant in it.

Old friends Enid Nelson and Marian Colby ran into each other at the ceremony and began to talk about what had just happened with Michael Delaney. Michael taught history at Pine Valley High School but the school board fired him and he felt it was due to his coming out of the closet to his class. Trevor agreed to represent him in his lawsuit against the school board. Enid sat on the school board so Trevor ran into her there and said to expect legal documents in the mail soon since he would be representing Michael in his suit.

Erica went into the bathroom to wait for Myrtle to bring her a dress and she got out her bottle of painkillers to take a pill. She dropped a pill on the floor and went scrounging around for it when Maria saw her. Maria found the pill and asked Erica how much she took but Erica refused to answer her. Erica blamed Maria for her problems but Maria assured her Erica's issues were the result of her addiction to the painkillers. Erica also accused Maria of throwing her out of Wildwind since Maria could not stand to be in Erica's shadow. Maria shot back and simply said she could not stand to live with her and said Wildwind was a much more peaceful place since Erica left.

Early on in Erica's speech, where she lashed out at everyone while high on the painkillers, Brooke started to get up and walk out. He said he was no longer into their union and that he would proceed forward with divorcing her since he saw their marriage as finished.

After Erica had bashed Dimitri, Maria, and Brooke she continued with her verbal assault and this time it was on both Tad and Liza. Tad was not in attendance but Erica wanted to make her point known that she considered him and Liza a "backstabbing tag team." This was due to Liza firing her from her job as the host of "The Cutting Edge" and replacing her with Tad Martin. Erica also hinted that Tad and Liza likely were having an affair behind Dixie's back (this later turned out to be true and Dixie divorced Tad).

Erica stopped her speech once her doctor, Jonathan Kinder, came to her and told her to come with him to another room to settle down. Opal and Myrtle also went with Jonathan and Erica to check in on Erica since they were her best friends. To keep the ceremony going, Adam got up to speak and said the night was still not over but also encouraged everyone to wish Erica a speedy recovery. Liza also gave a short speech after Adam and said Erica's tirade was due to her addiction to painkillers and that she had to fire her since WRCW was a drug free place.

When Jonathan spoke to Erica about her condition, he broke to her the bad news that she was an addict and needed to get help. Erica refused to believe him but he said he should have started to wean her off the medication sooner. As Erica was about to run out of the Valley Inn, as that is where the Women in Media ceremony was held, Jonathan took her car keys so she would not get behind the wheel and likely get into an accident. Erica ran off to Mona's grave for comfort and it was there that she heard Mona's voice encourage her to kick her addiction. Rather than take a pill, Erica threw away her prescription bottle.

In the next scene, she showed up at Myrtle's boarding house and commented on how her addiction cost her the job at WRCW, her marriage to Dimitri, and custody of Bianca.

This is when she admitted to Myrtle everyone was correct in how she was an addict and needed to get help. Myrtle flew out to California to get Erica settled in at the Betty Ford Center and it was a couple months later where Erica completed her rehab and was free of her addiction.
