Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In what month did Richard Dawson return to the "Family Feud" in 1994?

Answer: September

The episodes were taped in August, but they weren't broadcast until September 12.
2. Who was the announcer?

Answer: Gene Wood

This was Gene's final season of announcing "Family Feud" (he previously announced the 1976-1985 version, as well as the previous six seasons of the 1988-1995 version). He would go on to announce for Game Show Network and other projects before his retirement in the late-'90s. He died in 2004.
3. How many members on each team were there?

Answer: 4

It had always been five before, and has always been five since, but for unknown reasons the number of members was changed to four in 1994. This has also been seen on international versions as well.
4. Was the Ray Combs set used?

Answer: No

A new, smaller set was constructed out of glass. There were some limitations: the board no longer turned, the family panels no longer slid in the intro, and there were no flashing lights. However, just before Fast Money, the background color did change from dark blue to red.
5. Was the Ray Combs-era theme song used?

Answer: No

A new, techno-like jazz version of the theme song was recorded. The tempo was initially slower, but when used on-air, it was sped up to sound more like the original theme. A new opening and new faceoff/commercial cues were penned also.
6. Was the Bullseye round played?

Answer: Yes

Though it wasn't called the Bullseye round. It was retooled to have only three questions instead of five, and was renamed the "Bankroll" round.
7. The set was originally built for the previous season (hosted by Ray Combs), when the "Feud" went on the road to a major tourist attraction. Where did they go?

Answer: Opryland USA

The syndicated "Feud" went to Opryland in September 1993.
8. The "Feud" inevitably started to go under once again, and it was eventually cancelled in 1995. In what month was it cancelled?

Answer: September

The O.J. Simpson trial was partly to blame, but most of the blame can also be pinned on Richard Dawson for not being the host he once was nearly 20 years earlier, and the producers for their unnecessary "tweaks."
9. In 2001, the Game Show Network ranked Richard Dawson's 1994 comeback #2 on the Greatest "Family Feud" Moments countdown. Why were they having this countdown?

Answer: For the 25th anniversary of "Family Feud"

"Family Feud" turned 25 in 2001. It was back on the air at that time, in syndication with host Louie Anderson.
10. True or False: Richard Dawson was once considered as host for the 1999 syndicated version.

Answer: True

He made the call, but wasn't interested. Louie Anderson also wanted him to appear on the first episode of his version, to give him a "passing of the torch," as it were, but Dawson also declined. He currently resides in California with his wife Gretchen (whom he met on the "Feud" in 1981) and daughter Shannon Nicole Dawson.
