Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. On what day in 1988 did Ray Combs' new "Family Feud" premiere on daytime network television?

Answer: July 4

On the first episode, Ray wished America a happy birthday. Then he said he'd studied all the CBS game shows and that he thought he was prepared. "...so, if you're ready, let's see the first item up for bids!"
2. On what network did Ray Combs' new "Feud" premiere?

Answer: CBS

Richard Dawson's original version (1976-1985) aired on ABC. Combs' "Feud" also aired in syndication, which doesn't count as a network.
3. Ray differed from Richard Dawson in the fact that he didn't kiss all the women. What was his gimmick?

Answer: Wearing women's high heels

Once there was a woman who was Ray's height and had high heels on. He asked if he could try them on, and the rest is history.
4. Starting in 1990, Ray became the first US "Feud" host to carry what onstage with him?

Answer: A cordless microphone

His microphone remained with him until his reign was over in 1994.
5. Who was the main announcer for Ray's 1988-1994 run?

Answer: Gene Wood

Gene also announced for Dawson's version from 1976-1985, and would stay with the "Feud" until 1995. Rod Roddy subbed for Gene once in 1989, Burton Richardson became announcer in 1999.
6. In 1992, producers added what feature to the show to boost ratings even higher?

Answer: The "Bullseye" round

The "Bullseye" round, in many fans' opinions, was what caused the "Feud" to go under for four years. It can also be seen on special episodes of the Australian "Bert's Family Feud."
7. Starting in 1992, the syndicated "Feud" was renamed "The New Family Feud." What was the daytime version called?

Answer: "The Family Feud Challenge"

The show was expanded to an hour. Two new families battled it out in the first half-hour, and the winning family played the "returning champion" family from the previous day's episode. This wouldn't happen on the syndicated "Feud" until 1994.
8. In the summer of 1993, the "Feud" went on the road and filmed an entire week of episodes from Opryland USA in what city?

Answer: Nashville, Tennessee

They took along a new, smaller set that would later be used on the "Family Feud" when Richard Dawson returned in 1994. Opryland USA, sadly, is no more.
9. By 1993, the writing was on the wall for the "Feud." What did the producers suggest to get back ratings?

Answer: Bring back Richard Dawson

Which they did in 1994. It was finally given the ax in 1995.
10. On Ray Combs' last show ("The New Family Feud", May 1994), what did Ray mysteriously do during the closing credits?

Answer: Walked off the set

Ray was never the same after that. His life took a downward spiral, and he eventually committed suicide on June 2, 1996.
