John is talking with Aeryn when Pilot chimes in on the comms and John says, "Yes, Mr. Bad News?" Pilot only seems to contact everyone when something bad is about to happen... which proves too true this time as well. John used Shellhead in "Crackers Don't Matter," Four Arms was used by Chiana in "Through the Looking Glass," and Transparent Purple Guy was used by John in the very first episode when he saw Pilot as a hologram.

After John gets shot out of a strange blob, Chiana asks what happened. John says, "Ah, that's the $64,000 question." All the possible answers were game shows from the 1950s.

Cro-Magnon John speaks to Chiana, telling her he's John. Although afraid of him at first, she eventually trusts that he's telling the truth and becomes his only friend on the ship.

When Cro-Magnon John shows up, John says, "I'm sick of it. It's bad enough being spat out of some green blob, now I got Quasimodo here saying he's me." Quasimodo is better known as the hunchback from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame."

John says, "I'm in Bill & Ted land here, so I'm open to suggestions," when one of his ideas doesn't seem to make any sense to the others. Chiana and John argue when she realizes that he and Future John have decided to send Cro-Magnon John into the sphere. Chiana says, "You think this guy is nothing! He's you! He's warm. He's sensitive. He's everything I ever liked about you."

D'Argo tells John that if he has to send one of the Crichtons into the sphere, he'll be there for them. John says he appreciates it, and D'Argo adds the above line.

Cro-Magnon John hides because he knows the other two will pick him to go into the sphere. In the end, regular John decides he'll go inside instead of his ancestor, but Future John plans on sending John in anyways so he can take his place. Cro-Magnon John kills Future John and carries him to the sphere, saying, "Not my place. Don't belong."
