Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "The Immortal Legion" - Who frees Pride from the earth prison outside Kanama?

Answer: Kimblee

The army of alchemical, immortal beings is brought to life...before promptly attacking the very General and scientists nearest to them. It becomes quickly apparent that these shambling, undead creatures are simply evil. Ed, Scar, and the chimeras reach the door under the Third Lab just before it opens, spilling forth hundreds of the beings. Ed realizes quickly that the bodies contain human souls, and rash actions must be taken to stop them.
In Central Control, General Armstrong holds her hostage and urges the others to pull their forces back moments before Sloth steps in to prevent her interference. When she's grabbed against a pillar and nearly crushed by Sloth, her brother arrives to knock Sloth off of her.
May, down in the sewers, flees from the undead horde and, in a moment of weakness, loses Envy to one of the monsters. When he's freed from his glass jar he uses the bodies to regenerate himself completely.
In Kanama, Al discovers that Pride has been sending out a signal from their prison...only too late; Kimblee breaks open the walls. Al has to break off his own feet to get away and save the remaining chimera. Before the chimera dies, he hands over the Philosopher Stone shard from Baschool. Al emerges from the cloud with new legs, formed by the stone.
2. "Combined Strength" - Who claims to be the fastest of the Homunculi?

Answer: Sloth

Al, using the Philosopher Stone Shard, is able to fight back against both Kimblee and Pride in a super-charged battle and, quickly, he traps Pride within another earth prison. Kimblee wonders why he doesn't just use the stone to bring his body back; Al says he vowed to save everyone. The two discuss the Law of Equivalent Exchange...Al seems to be stuck choosing one or the other. Kimblee insists that, perhaps, Al will have neither; he frees Pride. Al, seizing the opportunity, throws the Philosopher's Stone downwind, allowing a recently-arrived Dr. Marcoh to use it and heal the dying chimera, granting them the surprise attack they need to bring down Kimblee. Pride, for some reason, is reluctant to hurt Kimblee and, before he can make a move against Dr. Marcoh, Yoki drives in to retrieve everyone, hitting Pride in his vehicle. They drive onward to Central, leaving the Homunculus in the dust. It gives Pride the opportunity to put Kimblee out of his misery, consuming him.
In Central, the Armstrongs discover that Sloth has weak spots, but they also discover that Sloth is also the fastest of the Homunuli, able to jet about at super speed, but uncontrollably. With this tactic, he hits General Armstrong, ensuring that her brother steps in to hold Sloth back. Major Armstrong is able to hold back Sloth by impaling him on a large, concrete spear. As the two discuss their situation, the undead army makes its appearance in the halls of Central Command....and Sloth frees himself.
Col. Mustang, still trying to find reentry into Central, splits off from his group to take a more subtle approach.
Underground, May battles with Envy as the horde steps in. Fortunately for the Homunculus, each mannequin soldier he devours makes him more powerful.
Ed and the chimeras, still fighting the army at the door in the Third Lab, start to find things hopeless until Col. Mustang arrives with Hawkeye to give Fullmetal a hand.
3. "Flame of Vengeance" - Who takes to the radio waves in Central to cast a favorable light on Col. Mustang's forces and the coup d'etat?

Answer: Mrs. Bradley

The public radio waves of Central light up as Mrs. Bradley broadcasts a testimony; the government tried to kill her and Col. Mustang. She says that she would not have lived without the Colonel and worries for her son who she doesn't know is a Homunculus. During the interview, she's told that the Fuhrer's train was blown up outside the city and his body had not been found; Breda informs the listeners that the Fuhrer has known for a while that someone from within would overthrow the government. With the word spread, the city starts acting. In the Third Lab, Col. Mustang lets loose a single swath of flame, charring the undead legion to ash. Moments later, May, fleeing from Envy, follows her chi all the way to the entrance to the Third Lab, reuniting her with Scar for the first time since she left for Xing. Col. Mustang, trying to put an end to Envy's nonsense, informs the Homunculus that he faked Maria Ross' death and demands Envy tell him who killed Hughes.

When Envy transforms into Hughes' wife, Mustang vows to defeat him on his own (though Hawkeye stays by his side).

The others continue through the door while Envy takes on his true form, but when Envy realizes his size is a disadvantage, he flees. Although the battle persists, Hawkeye decides to follow, even when told not to, providing an opportunity for Envy to play a bit of a mind game.
4. "Beyond the Inferno" - Does Col. Mustang end up killing Envy using his flame alchemy?

Answer: No

After reuniting, Col. Mustang and Hawkeye seem to have a strained moment as she draws a gun to his head; she reveals that the Colonel refers to her by her first name when they're alone, and Envy reveals that he's taken on his form. Fortunately for her, the bluff worked. She shoots him in the head...and keeps shooting. Envy grabs her, but the Colonel arrives in time to scorch him into submission, letting the fury consume him. Envy is reduced to the tiny worm he is before Mustang puts his boot down on him and doesn't give him the chance. Fortunately for the weakened Homunculus, Hawkeye, Ed, and Scar allow that chance. Ed tells Mustang that his rage is transforming him into the very thing he wanted to fight against. Hawkeye knows he's better than he's being and, by recalling his fallen friend and fearing for Riza, Mustang pulls back. Envy, angered by the diffusion, tries to egg the others on but Ed sees that he's just being jealous of humanity's ability to pick itself back up. Envy, humiliated that a human could see through him so clearly, tears out his own Philosopher's Stone.
On the surface in Central, Sloth finally frees himself from the cement pillar and heals. More forces arrive as Armstrong states that she's in command, allowing the group to rally together to fend off the alchemical creations. Major Armstrong battles Sloth exclusively, using Sloth's raw power to fix the dislocation in his shoulder and giving him the one-up.
A tank makes its way through Central, having been assembled by the Briggs forces in the Armstrong Estate. The militia plans to fight back, but Armstrong's soldiers are already on top of things with Falman's navigation and Izumi Curtis' alchemy.
Under the city, Van Hohenheim reaches Father's chamber.
5. "The Adults' Way of Life" - Major Armstrong and Izumi Curtis' husband, Sig, are able to subdue and destroy what Homunculus?

Answer: Sloth

On the surface, the tanks cease fire as the Briggs forces take over Central command. The undead continue to force through Central Command and as Armstrong calls in support, Sloth reheals and frees himself. Before he can strike the Armstrongs, the Central forces in the room work together to pull him back (though it takes over a dozen men). The Armstrongs have to run but Major Armstrong refuses and, just as Sloth moves in to strike, Izumi Curtis hits first, hurling the Homunculus to her husband so that he and the Major can tag team their common enemy. Finally, with Sloth impaled one more time, he expends his souls and perishes. General Armstrong surveys the building before refusing the Fuhrer's chair and she and her brother find a secret passage leading deep beneath Central Command. Outside, the rebels secure all entrances and neutralize the building. Central is theirs.
Father and Van Hohenheim, finally face to face again, begin to fight despite Van Hohenheim's reluctance to battle. He suggests that, perhaps, the whole time Father wanted nothing more than a family to better mimic humanity but, enraged, Father strikes him in an attempt to claim the Philosopher's Stone within his creator. To his surprise, this doesn't work.
In front of Central Command, Fuhrer King Bradley broadcasts his return. He plans to retake control of his palace.
6. "The Return of the Führer" - From where does Fuhrer King Bradley reenter his captured palace?

Answer: The main gate

While the Fuhrer returns on the surface, Father and Van Hohenheim continue to argue. Van Hohenheim describes the contamination occurring in Father as a result of his attack. Unlike Father, he spent the ages speaking to the souls within his body and has formed the bonds with them necessary to get them to turn on Father when the moment would arise-- more than five hundred thousand of them. The souls begin to tear through his flask, destroying his body, and freeing the dwarf within. Unfortunately for Van Hohenheim, Father has evolved over the years as well, and is capable of living without his shell.
In the public radio station, Mrs. Bradley receives word that her husband is alive. Maria Ross, Bueda, and Fuery consider their options.
Fuhrer King Bradley, amazingly, is able to deflect all shots and storm his own palace and, in doing so, he tears through countless Briggs soldiers and destroys the tank, reaching the main gate unscathed. Armstrong's trusty captain, Buccaneer, is felled without so much as a warning, and Felman almost needs to open the gate before Greed makes an appearance, taunting Wrath from above before joining the fray. At the same time, Central forces begin retaking the main gate; Felman is forced to take the lead, rallying the remaining soldiers and using the turrets at the top of the case to trap the reinforcements. The men from Central are bested, it seems, when a figure jets by them to join the battle between Greed and Wrath; it's Fu, and for the first time he's laying his eyes on the one responsible for taking Lan Fan's arm.
7. "Eternal Leave" - Beneath Central, Ed finds the man who created Fuhrer King Bradley. What does this doctor do?

Answer: Sends Ed back to the Other Side

Inside Central, the Armstrongs, Izumi, and Sig descend into the darkness below the building. Elsewhere in the labyrinth, Ed, Scar, Hawkeye, and Mustang find a man who reveals himself to be the creator of Wrath. He and the men who were trained to become King Bradley have been waiting for them, and all of them are skilled warriors.
Lan Fan, searching the tunnels beneath Central, overhears soldiers discussing the Fuhrer's return and heads up to the main gate where her grandfather and Ling/Greed are already locked in battle. Ling pulls through at an important moment as Wrath strikes Fu with his own weapon, but Fu sacrifices himself, grabbing the Fuhrer and launching at him with explosives...just as Wrath takes one more swing, severing the lit fuses. This does, however, give Buccaneer the opportunity to strike, piercing through Fu (where Bradley can't see it) and stabbing him. The strike proves fatal for the two humans. Greed, seizing the opportunity, pierces through Bradley's eye while Lan Fan watches from above in horror.
Underground it's Hawkeye who proves most useful, simply shooting the Bradley leftovers. It does become apparent though, when the doctor brings his warriors close and activates his transmutation circle that something horrible is about to happen. Ed realizes...all of the laboratories beneath Central are connected in a circle. The doctor unleashes his alchemy. Sensing something is amiss, Izumi and Sig depart, tunnelling back up to the surface. Little do they know, it's too late. Izumi, Alphonse, and Edward are dematerialized and pulled to the other side; their companions are powerless to save them.
8. "Sacrifices" - Who is used as leverage in order to convince Col. Mustang to become the fifth sacrifice?

Answer: Hawkeye

With Edward gone, Scar, Col. Mustang, and Hawkeye have to fight the Bradley cast-offs alone. Meanwhile, Ed travels through the portal.
Greed and Wrath continue fighting, bursting through one of the walls of the gate and hanging from the edge. Fortunately, Lan Fan is able to grab Ling with her Automail arm, but it becomes clear that the weight is tearing it from her. She refuses to let go as the Briggs men help. Wrath plummets into the moat below as Ling is pulled up, screaming for an alchemist to help heal Fu. While he does this though, he's shot by a Central soldier, only to regenerate. Now that he's immortal, he can't even save his people. The men at the top of the stairs run out of ammo; Ling vows to fight to the death to protect Central Command...even if that means taking on the enemy on his own.
Underground, the Armstrongs and Sig search for Izumi and receive the word that Buccaneer has been killed, though Bradley is gone. With further resolve, they press onward.
On the other side, Ed rematerializes with Izumi and Al in the presence of Father. Van Hohenheim has been melded into the dwarf and a fifth sacrifice will be arriving shortly as they've yet to be made. Al, unfortunately, isn't quite conscious.
The Doctor is thrilled when Scar, Hawkeye, and Col. Mustang are subdued, mainly because he can coerce Mustang into performing human transmutation, opening a portal, and becoming the fifth sacrifice. When he refuses, the doctor has his henchmen make a serious cut on Hawkeye, giving the motivation Mustang needs to accept the offer.
9. "Lost Light" - When Col. Mustang passes through to the other side, what part of him does he lose?

Answer: His eyesight

Considering Hawkeye's protests, Col. Mustang refuses the offer to perform human transmutation provided his lieutenant his healed, mainly because May and the chimeras have reunited with them. Mustang struggles to keep Hawkeye conscious while May fights to collect the Philosopher's Stone, but she decides to help Riza first. This gives Wrath the chance to pick up the stone. Since his wounds aren't regenerating, it's apparent that he, too, may need to bargain to stay alive. The conversation is forced into an abrupt end when the final Homunculus makes an entrance; Pride descends from the ceiling. Wrath uses the distraction to pierce Col. Mustang's hands, pinning him to the floor and forcing him to activate a human transmutation circle fuelled by the doctor's knowledge (assimilated, as it would seem, by Pride). Outside, the eclipse begins. Pride and Wrath step back as Mustang is taken to the other side. Wrath wonders what will be taken from him when it happens before he urges the others to try and take him down. Scar, realizing that he's standing where the negative chi is the strongest, makes his move.
Mustang, on the other side, sees the truth and is pulled through to Father's chamber just as Pride descends to meet Father. Since Alphonse is not present, the ritual can not be performed yet. It gives Col. Mustang the chance to find out what was taken from him: his eyesight. Without his eyesight, he can't see Pride withering away nearby.
Bradley and Scar come to blows while the others attempt to make their escape. As they crash through the floor, May emerges in Father's room.
On the other side, Alphonse comes face to face with his body and reaches to it. Al, realizing his body has withered away, realizes that he still needs to be in his suit of armor since it's the only thing that's strong enough. He promises he'll come back.
Al awakens, and all five of the sacrifices are present.
10. "Eye of Heaven, Gateway of Earth" - Father is successfully able to perform the ritual during the eclipse.

Answer: True

In Central, Denny Brosh reunites with Maria Ross at the radio station. Mrs. Bradley worries about her husband. The eclipse nearly reaches its full alignment as the Ishvalan take their places in the city as designated by the new transmutation circles from the code book.
Underground, May volunteers to handle Father on her own since her Alkahestry won't be affected; the others will need to keep Pride off her. Fortunately, Ed notices that Pride is falling apart; the risks Selim had to take were too much. The Elrics are also able to use their alchemy. As much as they distract the Homunculus, May has no chance against their greater foe.
Scar, waiting for the right moment, continues to fight Wrath at the designated spot. Though it seems as though Wrath is able to overcome Scar's destructive powers, Scar throws a wrench into the mix by revealing he'd completed his brother's tattoos, inking the reconstructive markings on his left arm to accept both halves of alchemy for the greater good.
While Ed takes care of Pride, Alphonse steps in front of May to protect her from almost certain death. Ed nearly destroys Pride entirely, but the time falls upon them all and Father has to put them to work while the eclipse is in progress. The five will be used to access the gateway to the planet's central nervous system...but not before Greed leaps in to take the world for himself. Unfortunately, Father planned for this; the center of the circle is at the throne. Darkness radiates out across the city, spreading from Central Command while Father stands safe and sound. Energy rushes through the tunnels dug throughout Amestris. The darkness pervades. The nation falls. Father rises into the heavens and pulls his God to Amestris, consuming it.
11. "He Who Would Swallow God" - Who appears as a vision in Pride's mind?

Answer: Kimblee

When Father pulls his God to the planet, a white light engulfs Amestris but everything beneath remains in total darkness. The sacrifices awaken in the chamber beneath Central, finding Father in his full form having acquired God and sacrificed fifty million lives. Father removes everyone's ability to use alchemy, but it's too late; Van Hohenheim has spent years preparing for this, planting Philosopher's Stones. There's also a circle in place-- the moon's shadow cast by the eclipse. The souls disperse from Father, returning to their bodies across the nation and reviving everyone. Father lashes out, but May's Alkahestry, stronger to compensate for the ebb and flow of the world's energy, protects them in time for the Elrics to help their father hold off the enemy.
Above them, Scar continues to battle the Fuhrer, both of them getting good hits on one another until, in a brief moment, the eclipse ends, shining sunlight onto the Fuhrer's sword and blinding him long enough for Scar to get the upper hand (though not before Wrath can take one more stab). As Bradley lays dying, Lan Fan emerges from the shadows and removes her mask. She takes his Philosopher's Stone and helps Scar to the center of the circle where, using its power, he activates the circle from the coded book in the memory of his brother. Scar's brother, discovering the nation-wide circle, rendered the philosopher's stone harmless with the inclusion of his own circle, but never lived to be able to use it himself. Now, they just need Father to keep using his energy to run through the power of his stone.
The Armstrongs gather together with Hawkeye and the chimeras as Father passes through the ceiling, making his way through the surface and starting to accumulate souls to bring himself back to power. The others plan to intercept him, but Pride holds Ed back to fight. Izumi leaves Mustang with the others, but he has other plans; he asks Hawkeye if she can still fight.
Ed and Pride begin to battle, but it becomes apparent that Pride needs a new body to survive. He plans to take Ed's body as a shell, but he's stopped at the last minute by Kimblee who, criticizing the Homunculus, gives Ed the opportunity to turn himself into a human Philosopher's Stone, reach in, and destroy Pride once and for all, diminishing him to his true form and leaving him in the bottom of Central.
12. "A Fierce Counterattack" - Who sacrifices themselves to return Ed's arm to his body?

Answer: Alphonse

Father, now on the surface outside of Central Command, starts to kill the Briggs soldiers in his way and harness their souls, but Van Hohenheim stops him (with Al, May, and Izumi close behind). Van Hohenheim argues that Father does nothing but destroy, thereby failing to follow the inherent laws, but Father proves him wrong by giving bodies back to some of the Xerxian souls within him...before destroying them...and destroying half of Central Command.
Underneath the city, Greed rallies the troops and finds that a number of the remaining heroes refuse to sit out despite injuries. It takes General Armstrong's own troops to tell her to stay back before she does, waiting with Scar, Sig, and one of the chimeras underground. She takes the opportunity to stand overtop the Fuhrer's body.
On the surface, an injured May awakens to find that Alphonse is nearly completely destroyed, having lost the front of his armor to protect her. Van Hohenheim protected Izumi from the blast with his back; Father is able to knock him aside easily. Luckily for them, General Armstrong's forces act as one to fire at Father, saving the alchemists from certain death. Across the courtyard, Hawkeye guides Mustang's fire, charring a path, while the others toss all they can to expend his souls. Greed seeing an opportunity to get the power he dreamed of, plunges his fist into Father's forehead, rendering him shieldless, but the other Alchemists are unable to overcome their foe's reflexes and, in fact, Ed's arm shatters. The offence is enough though; the power of his God can't be kept in check and he loses control. Needing a Philosopher's Stone, he lunges for Ed who, impaled on a pole, is unable to escape. Al makes the only move he can and asks May to make the path he needs. Using her remote Alkahestry, he uses his blood marking as the circle and returns to the other side to, finally, unite with his body. In the real world, Ed's arm is returned to his body. The upper hand is his.
13. "The Other Side of the Gateway" - Does Alphonse ever return to the real world with his body intact?

Answer: Yes

Ed, with his arm intact, is able to tear into Father with ease despite the fact that the dwarf from the flask has absorbed his God. Father, seeking his last chance at a Philosopher's Stone, plunges fist-first into Greed, but within Ling and Greed both make it clear that they won't go down without a fight. While Ling tugs at Greed's soul, urging him to stay so that they can rule Xing together, Greed comes to the realization that he had everything he needed the whole time-- friendship. He sucker punches Ling and transfers into Father, but in doing so uses his shielding to convert his flesh to weaker carbon. Father tears Greed from within himself, killing him, but it gives Ed the chance to punch a hole straight through, destroying his stone and pulling him into nothingness.
On the other side, the Homunculus faces his God. He's told that he could not obtain perfection and obtain knowledge by removing his seven desires from himself. Now, he must face the despair his arrogance deserves. The dwarf is pulled in beyond the door.
In Central, Alphonse has not returned from the other side. Ling hands over the Philosopher's Stone, but Ed refuses, sure that something can be done. Van Hohenheim says that he has just enough life to sacrifice himself for Al, and if Ed will let him, he'll be able to act like a father for once in his life. Remembering the words of those from his past, Ed knows there must be some way to bring Al back. He decides then and there to perform his last transmutation, forming a human transmutation circle and going to the other side.
When he reaches the door, Ed is asked what he plans to give up for his brother. His portal, he says; he doesn't need alchemy. He's perfectly fine without it because he has everything he needs in the people around him. The Truth announces that he's beaten him, destroys the door, and allows him to pass to his brother. The two exit together, leaving the other side behind forever.
On the other side, Alphonse awakens to find his friends and family watching over him. He apologizes to May as she cries over him.
The radio outlines the after-effects of the day's events. King Bradley and Selim are dead (though Ed hands the final form of Pride over to his mother) and Colonel Mustang and General Armstrong have taken power in Central. The truth behind the alchemical circle around Amestris is revealed to its people.
Van Hohenheim returns to Trisha Elric's grave in Resembool. Worse for wear, he begins to fragment, still connected to the Homunculus. Pinako Rockbell finds him kneeling in front of the grave having finally aged to his death.
14. "Journey's End" - Who possesses the Philosopher's Stone to heal Col. Mustang?

Answer: Dr. Marcoh

Dr. Knox heads to the hospital to visit Col. Mustang. To Knox's surprise, Mustang is studying to brush up on his political facts for his future as Fuhrer; he hopes to make amends with Ishval despite his blindness. He also decides to call off military infiltration of Ishval and return their land to them. Dr. Marcoh has also stopped by to visit...and he has his Philosopher Stone shard. Marcoh reasons that the stone was made with Ishvalan souls, and his devotion to their cause would be a reason to use it. First, Mustang says, Marcoh needs to heal Havoc.
Scar awakens in bed to find General Armstrong and Miles waiting for him. Miles, now in charge of relations between Central and Ishval, wants Scar to aid him in the efforts. He agrees to do so.
After the battle in Central, May and Ling agreed to set their differences aside. Ling insists that his clan won since he got the bottled Philosopher's Stone...but he plans on keeping her clan and all the others safe. May claims that trying to protect everyone may be too greedy. They all leave to Xing to bury Fu.
Over time, General Grumman heads Amestris as Fuhrer. Visiting Mrs. Bradley, he's surprised when a young Selim Bradley appears. Selim is a good child, but a watchful eye is placed on him. Mrs. Bradley promises that she will never let anything bad happen.
15. "Journey's End" - To learn all they can about alchemy, what do Edward and Alphonse do in the end?

Answer: Split up to explore the world

Ed and Al, back in Resembool, struggle with Al's muscle strength, mainly because they atrophied significantly during his time on the other side. Ed refuses to go ahead since they'll return home together. Ed jokes that Al and May got close enough that he could become a future Prince of Xing, but when Al jokes about Winry, Ed doesn't respond.
Winry, hearing noise outside, heads to the front door to find both Ed and Al have returned; Al is in his proper body; Ed has his right arm back.
Over the next days, Ed is already back working on chores and Al's muscles are getting back to normal. Jokingly, Ed tries to use alchemy to fix the roof; it doesn't work.
Al ends up making the rounds in Central, visiting Hughes' family and spending the day with the chimeras before heading to Xing to meet with May. He wants to learn all he can, meet who he can, and experience new things; the chimeras vow to follow him in the hopes that they can get their bodies back.
Ed heads west. If they combine their efforts, the two of them can return to one another and find something new about alchemy. On the train platform, Ed breaks down and tells Winry he'll give half of his life to her if she gives half her life to him; it's the law of equivalent exchange. Winry says it's nonsense...she might as well just give her whole life. Or 90%...or 80%...or something along those lines. The two of them embrace before he boards the train.
