Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Fry and Bender's apartment number 00100100 translates to what number in binary code?

Answer: 36

All of the apartments in the Robot Arms Apartment Building have binary code numbers. 36 also translates to the symbol $ in the Extended ASCII code. This is significant because Bender nearly always has a great deal of stolen cash.
2. Which actor provides the voice for one of the main characters on the show and one of their parents?

Answer: Lauren Tom

Lauren Tom voices both Amy Wong and her mother Inez. "Futurama" is not the only show where Lauren Tom portrays a mother and daughter on an animated show. She is also the voice for Connie and Minh Souphanousinphone on "King of the Hill". Billy West does the voices for Philip J. Fry, Prof. Farnsworth, and Dr. John Zoidberg. John DiMaggio voices Fry's father Yancy Fry, Sr.

The fathers of Zoidberg and the professor have never been shown on the program. Turanaga Leela has the voice of Katey Sagal, and her mother Turanaga Munda is voiced by Tress MacNeille. Phil LaMarr is the voice of bureaucrat Hermes Conrad.

Hermes' father has never been shown on the show. However, Hermes' son Dwight is voiced by Bumper Robinson.
3. Which cast member of Matt Groening's original brainchild "The Simpsons" never guest-starred on "Futurama"?

Answer: Harry Shearer

Castellaneta, who primarily voices Homer Simpson, was in several episodes as Beelzebot (aka the Robot Devil). Azaria, who voices everyone from Apu to Chief Wiggum, voiced Harold Zoid, Dr. Zoidberg's silent film star uncle in "That's Lobstertainment!". Cartwright provided the voice of Bart Simpson on "The Simpsons" and "Futurama".

In "A Big Piece of Garbage" Fry, Leela, and Bender attempted to save New New York from being hit by a huge ball of garbage, parodying the film "Armageddon". While on the garbage ball, Bender finds a talking Bart Simpson doll.

After pulling its string and hearing it say, "Eat my shorts!", Bender rips the shorts off the doll and swallows them! Mmmm, shorts!
4. What real-life person was a robot, according to Calculon?

Answer: David Duchovny

Apparently Calculon himself was David Duchovny! In the episode "The Honking", Bender is turned into a "were-car" when a car runs him down on the moors of his late uncle's estate. When he, Fry, and Leela track down the car, they talk to Calculon, who was the first to receive the were-car's curse.

He got it many years ago when he was a crane on an assembly line. Scientists were trying to create the most evil car ever - it had parts from Hitler's Mercedes, Charles Manson's Volkswagen bus, and the car from Knight Rider (KITT's windshield-wipers were evil, evidently). Calculon recounts about how over the years he had been all of history's greatest robot actors, Duchovny being one of them. Clark and Shatner, though not robots, appeared on the show as themselves.
5. What is the name of the building where Dean Vernon's office is located at Mars University?

Answer: Mentholyptus Hall

In the episode "Mars University", Dean Vernon is the stuffy authority figure who picks on the students of Robot House, a chapter of Bender's old fraternity Epsilon Rho Rho, or ERR. The Dean's name is a play on the name of actor John Vernon, who portrayed the infamous Dean Wormer in "National Lampoon's Animal House". Dean Vernon's mannerisms and phrasings are very similar to those of Dean Wormer.
6. Who was originally meant to voice the character of Captain Zapp Brannigan?

Answer: Phil Hartman

Frequent "Simpsons" voice Phil Hartman was the first choice to be the voice of the incompetent, irreverent Zapp Brannigan. Unfortunately, he was killed by his wife Brynn on May 28, 1998. However, Hartman was given another tribute in the show: Fry was given the first name Philip in the second season of the show.
7. What is the name of Fry's new friend and fellow defrostee who becomes CEO of Planet Express in the episode "Future Stock"?

Answer: Steve Castle

Castle is simply referred to as "That Guy" during the episode. He meets Fry at a support group for people who have recently come out of cryogenic freezing. Castle had himself frozen until science found a cure for his rare disease: "terminal bone-itis".

When Fry brings him to the Planet Express stockholders' meeting, he suggests that Castle be the new CEO of the company, since he had been a sleazy stockbroker from the 1980s. He takes the position, and proceeds to suck Planet Express dry. He even prepares to sell the company to Mom's Friendly Robot Company, but before the deal goes through, his bone-itis suddenly causes his whole body to crumple into a twisted shape, and he dies.
8. Which is NOT one of the names of Professor Farnsworth's atomic supermen?

Answer: Gallactico

Professor Farnsworth creates the atomic supermen in the episode "Time Keeps on Slippin'" to play basketball against the invading Harlem Globetrotters. Arachnion is a spider-like creature, Armo has five arms, and Thorias is named after Thor, the Norse god of thunder.

The other two supermen are named Lasero (he shoots lasers) and Grotrian (he can stretch the entire length of the court). Some of the names of the supermen are given in the show by Marv Albert, but all are apparent in the subtitles of the DVD.
9. In the episode "Fry and the Slurm Factory", Leela and Professor Farnsworth are playing a game similar to Scrabble. What letter tiles does the professor have?

Answer: F, M, T, U, A, U, R

The professor is one letter short of spelling "Futurama". The other choices spell "Simpsons" (another Matt Groening creation), Bender, and Fox. Some of the words that are already on the board are "prop only", "donut", "Matt area", and "one eye".
10. Professor Farnsworth owns a pet gargoyle in the episode "Teenage Mutant Leela's Hurdles". It is named after the Mesopotamian demon who was the King of evil air spirits. What is its name?

Answer: Pazuzu

Pazuzu saves Professor Farnsworth's life at the end of the episode by pulling him out of the Fountain of Aging. The professor rewards him by setting him free. Pazuzu the demon was also the entity which possessed Regan MacNeil in "The Exorcist".
