"Green Acres" Is the Place To Be Quiz

"Green Acres" was a classic television comedy in the US which aired from 1965 to 1971. It was my favorite show during this time. This is my first attempt at creating a quiz on FunTrivia. I hope you enjoy it as much as I did working on it.

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What was the name of the town where Green Acres was located?

Answer: Hooterville

Hooterville is a fictitious town in a state that was never mentioned.
2. Oliver and Lisa Douglas were the owners of Green Acres. Who did they buy their farm from?

Answer: Mr. Haney

Mr. Haney was played by Pat Buttram. Mr. Haney was basically viewed as a con artist who tried to swindle anyone he could for increasing his personal wealth. Eustace was his given name in the show, but it was rarely stated.
3. There was a county agent in the show whose job was to help guide the farmers agriculturally in the area. Who was this man?

Answer: Hank Kimball

Hank Kimball was a bumbling character who either didn't pay much attention to the person he was talking to or would forget the question being asked of him within five seconds. Alvy Moore was the actor who portrayed Mr. Kimball.
4. Fred and Doris Ziffel owned a farm in the vicinity of the Douglases and raised a pig as a child of theirs. The pig had a first name also. What was it?

Answer: Arnold

The pig's name was Arnold Ziffel and was quite talented in that he could turn the television set on and change channels when there was no remote control. He also grunted when we wanted to speak and his "parents" understood what he was trying to convey and even a few characters from the area could also decipher his squeals.
5. Who was the actress who played the role of Lisa Douglas?

Answer: Eva Gabor

Eva Gabor was a Hungarian actress who confounded some people in the show with her accent and the way she tried to express certain words in English. Her husband Oliver was probably the one who most confused.
6. What was the name of the train that connected the people of "Green Acres" to "Petticoat Junction's" Shady Rest hotel and Drucker's store?

Answer: Cannonball

The train used in "Green Acres" was an old time steam locomotive.
7. Where did Oliver and Lisa Douglas live before they purchased their farm?

Answer: New York City

Glimpses of New York are shown in the opening scenes of each "Green Acres" show. During the theme song Oliver Douglas sings in part "Keep Manhattan, just give me that countryside." Then Lisa retorts, "No, New York is where I'd rather stay...Dah-ling I love you but give me Park Avenue."
8. The Douglases had a hired hand throughout the series. What was his name?

Answer: Eb Dawson

Eb Dawson was the farm hand played by Tom Lester. His character was seen on three different comedy series; "The Beverly Hillbillies", "Petticoat Junction" and "Green Acres." These three sitcoms were the only acting jobs he had for television.
9. Lisa Douglas was known for cooking one main dish throughout the 6 year run of "Green Acres." What was her specialty in the kitchen?

Answer: Hotcakes

While living in New York where she could always dine in fancy restaurants, Lisa never was forced to cook for herself and her husband Oliver. When she moved to the hick town there were no upscale dining establishments so she had to learn to cook. Her hotcakes turned out either rubbery or burnt or hard as a rock.

There was one episode where the hotcakes were to be used to shingle the roof and another where one was used as a gasket for the Hoyt-Clagwell tractor on the farm.
10. Oliver and Lisa needed repairs done to the ramshackle house they lived in after purchasing the farm. For that they hired a two person construction crew. Who were the contractors known as?

Answer: The Monroe Brothers

The Monroe Brothers consisted of a brother and sister team. Alf Monroe was the brother who was played by Sid Melton. Mary Grace Canfield was the actress who portrayed the sister, Ralph Monroe. The obvious pun was that the name Ralph would generally be considered to be a man's name and "he" was cast as a female. That caused a lot of confusion to people who didn't know them personally in the show.
