Kira Yamato is a young co-ordinator (genetically enhanced human) who is living in the peaceful nation of ORB until ZAFT invades to obtain the top secret mobile suits being produced by Morgenraete. Kira pilots the X-105 Strike to save his friends from the invading ZAFT forces. Kira continues to fight as a volunteer soldier and realises that he must fight his best friend Athrun Zala who is a soldier of ZAFT and believes Kira to be his enemy. Kira is rather upset about the fact that he has to fight against Athrun.

Athrun Zala and Kira Yamato use to be the best of friends until co-ordinators were evacuated from earth. Athrun thought that Kira would be arriving later in the PLANTs (the place where co-ordinators live in space) but Kira's parents decided to live in the neutral nation of ORB. Athrun lost his mother in the Bloody Valentine Tragedy (a nuclear attack on ZAFT by the Earth Forces) and that is why he fights for the ZAFT military. Athrun's father is Chairman Patrick Zala and is the leader of ZAFT and believes that all naturals should be wiped out.

The X-105 Strike is the mobile suit that Kira climbs into when Heliopolis is under attack. The person who is trying to pilot it is a natural, Marrue Romius, and doesn't know how to pilot it so Kira takes over the controls, instantly re-writes the OS and defeats the mobile suit attacking them a feat that would take any normal natural months or even years to do.

The Strike gets destroyed by Athrun after Kira kills Nicol but he is given a new mobile suit, the ZGMF-X10A Freedom, by Lacus Clyne.

The ZGMF-X10A Freedom was given to Kira by Lacus Clyne after Athrun destroyed the Strike. After giving Kira Freedom, Lacus and her father were considered to be traitor to ZAFT and became fugitives. After her father is killed Lacus started another group called the Clyne Faction who do not fight the Earth Forces nor ZAFT.

Answer: Patrick Zala

Patrick Zala is the chairman of ZAFT and believes that naturals need to be wiped out to end the war. He lost his wife, Athrun's mother, in the Bloody Valentine Tragedy and that's what he believes that naturals should be exterminated.

Answer: Andrew Waltfeld

Andrew Waltfeld is a co-ordinator who is situated on Earth. Kira meets him before they are made to fight and find him to be strangely pleasant. His mobile suit is later destroyed by Kira in a fierce battle though Kira was rather disturbed that he had been made to kill again.

He later re-appears though we don't know how but he can no longer pilot mobile suits he seems to be injured extensively. He is the captain on the Eternal along with Lacus Clyne.

Answer: Haro

Athrun made Haro for lacus just like he made Birdee for Kira. After Lacus told him how much joy Haro brought her he made more and more for her until she had over 20 Haros. But she always says that her first one, Mr. Pink, is her favourite.

Answer: Fllay Allster

Fllay's mother died when she was very young and her father died not long after her boarding the ArchAngel. Kira has a real crush on her and after her father is killed she plots to make Kira destroy all of the ZAFT soldiers. She believes that Kira can wipe out all co-ordinators.

She dumps her boyfriend/fiance', Sai, for Kira so she can make him do everything she says. She is very manipulative but in the end of the series she apologizes to Kira for what she has done to him.

Answer: Justice

Athrun's father gives him this mobile suit when he returns to the PLANTs and learns that the ZGMF-X10A Freedom was stolen and that Lacus gave it to the person (Kira). The Justice and Freedom are both equipped with N-Jammer Cancellers which means they run on nuclear energy.
