Homey D. Clown was the alter ego of a convict named Herman Simpson who agrees to the degrading job as part of his parole. Homey would rant about how The Man was out to get him. If a child tried to make Homey do a clown trick, Homey would whack the kid on the head with a tennis ball-filled sock and tell them, "I don't think so. Homey don't play that."

Damon also played homeless wino Anton Jackson, disabled superhero Handi-Man, and gay film critic Blaine Edwards.

Damon was on the show for the first three seasons, Siblings Keenen Ivory, Shawn, Marlon, Dwayne, and Kim also appeared on the show. By the time the fifth and final season started, not a single member of the Wayans family was still on the show.

The censors felt it was making light of date rape and has not been shown in syndication or featured on DVD. Coles played a passed-out woman.

The first season was thirteen episodes long and it ran from April to September 1990. The final episode aired in May 1994.

After "In Living Color" was gone, Fox tried another sketch comedy show with "House of Buggin'," featuring a mostly Latino cast that included John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman. The comedy did not have the same edginess and was canceled after four episodes aired in January 1995. Months later, "MADtv" was born and that show lasted fourteen seasons, from October 1995 to May 2009.
