Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Adam and Kathy, owners of the first Instant Hotel visited (in episode 1), made their home in which Australian state?

Answer: Northern Territory

The first group of hoteliers made their way to the town of Humpty Doo in the Northern Territory of Australia for the first homestay, arriving at Adam and Kathy's $1000/night 'Top End Hideaway' in the woods. The home was purpose-built by the couple, consisting of a main house and two off-shoots, one containing a single master bedroom and one containing three smaller bedrooms, all connected by covered patios.

The other four couples liked the place, including the beautiful pool, but disliked some of the questionable construction choices, the bugs, and lack of homey feel. Ultimately, the home was scored 31 out of 50 points and they placed fourth in their grouping.
2. Mark and Jannine, whose retro house in Barossa Valley had a 1950s theme, had a master bedroom themed specifically around which celebrity?

Answer: Marilyn Monroe

In the second episode of the season, the first group of contestants visited what appeared to be a shed in the Barossa Valley only to discover that Mark and Jannine had constructed a 1950s-themed retro house filled with nostalgic American memorabilia. This house had the second-highest score of the first group because despite its lack of private rooms (two couples had to stay in main rooms), it was, as Adam claimed, a must-see destination for all Australians.

At $800/night for a group of eight, it was one of the few destinations of the show to be outside the major cities. Babe and Bondi were the ones to stay in the main bedroom, an ode to Marilyn Monroe.
3. Sam and James managed a property in 'North Byron Bay' that had which weird quirk?

Answer: It was formerly owned by a cult

This fact came as a bit of a surprise to their guests on their first night, perhaps moreso than finding out that the property, while managed by the newlyweds, was actually owned by Sam's parents who lived on the premises in another residence. The guests, however, enjoyed the premises themselves, even if they couldn't really make sense of how to use the pizza oven, and after a long trek through a swampy forest, they made it to the chilly beachfront. Sleeping eight at $1,500/night, the hotel got good marks from most, but placed third in the first set of properties.
4. Babe and Bondi's Bondi Beach Instant Hotel was themed around what alcoholic drink?

Answer: Margarita

The guests at Babe and Bondi's beachside apartment, when given the house rules, were informed that they would be required to drink one margarita during their stay, and when Mark and Jannine refused during the first visit to the Instant Hotel, they ended up getting penalized for it. Either way, Babe and Bondi's place was deemed the best of the first five and they were sent to the final round to compete for the grand prize. Ultimately, their Instant Hotel received second place, being praised for its value for money and location, but falling short on the house itself and the guests' night sleep.
5. Brent and Leroy's Port Douglas location was situated next to which of these?

Answer: A highway

Brent and Leroy's Instant Hotel, talked up for the first four episodes, ended up being a bit of a let-down for the guests for their last stop, and while some of the scores may have been influenced by the couple's antagonizing comments throughout the destinations, all agreed that the home's overwhelming interior decorating left a lot to be desired. That said, the guests enjoyed the relaxing water feature and the bedrooms and had great fun with the unique amenities in the Port Douglas area.
6. What was the three-letter name of Terry and Anita's Brisbane Instant Hotel?

Answer: Zen

Terry and Anita's Instant Hotel, quite the distance from the beach, was the first to show up in the second grouping but it ended up holding onto the highest score amongst the group and, inevitably, it won the entire season due in part to their beautiful house and the improvements they made for the final round. Named 'Zen', their Queenslander was a relaxing home for up to ten people and, upon returning for the final round, it included an outdoor cabana. Ultimately, it beat Babe and Bondi's Instant Hotel by 6 points in the final round, scoring 64 to 58 (out of 80).
7. Bec and Tristan's Instant Hotel was which of these unique options?

Answer: Houseboat

The second group of travellers headed out to the Murray River outside of Mildura to visit Bec and Tristan's Instant Hotel which, to their surprise, ended up being a houseboat, the only non-house location visited in the season. Eight people crammed into their houseboat of only three bedrooms though and the price was $600/night, one of the highest costs of the final five Instant Hotels.

Despite a relatively low score brought on by strategic voting, their destination was praised for its inclusion of a pro wakeboarding lesson with Bec.
8. Of all ten Instant Hotels this season, Serena and Sturt's location was the least expensive per night.

Answer: True

Priced competitively at only $300/night, Serena and Sturt's home outside of Melbourne in Point Cook was nearly two hundred dollars less expensive than the nearest competitors but featured a significant amount of amenities within the house itself (including a music room).

Some guests were put off by a recommended tour of the local sewage facilities, but the real surprise came when they found out that it was Serena's actual house, occupied regularly by herself and her two children with little alterations for guests.

Their house scored the second-lowest of the houses in the second group.
9. Lynne and Simon's modern villa was in what Australian city?

Answer: Gold Coast

Found on the Isle of Capri, the 'Verona Villa' owned by Lynne proved to be a near-perfect destination for beach-goers heading to the sunny Gold Coast, but a number of the visitors, ranking strategically just after and just before visits to their locations ended up bringing down the overall ranking of the AirBNB (giving them a score of 29/50).

In fact, Serena and Sturt gave, by far, the lowest grade of the season-- 2 out of 10.
10. Mikey and Shay's suburban mansion outside of Sydney required which of these of its guests?

Answer: That they feed the pets

But actually. In addition to paying $640 to stay in their four bedroom mansion in West Pennant Hills, Sydney, guests were required, as per the BNB rules, to housesit, feeding cats, fish, and turtles in Mikey's upper-class family home. While the location housed a number of on-site amenities (including a beautiful tennis court), the house seemed to be more of a museum.

The Instant Hotel was the lowest-rated of the entire season with many, including Juliet, commenting on its insufficiency. In retaliation, Mikey and Shay gave their guests a review score of 2, also the lowest of the show.
