"Intervention" is a REAL Reality Show Quiz

This show was one of the first shows that showed the real side of addictions. It was not pretty. These were not actors but real people being filmed looking for their drug of choice.

It was nominated for an Emmy for Outstanding Cinematography for Reality Programming in 2007 but did not win.

In season one, there was a young woman named Kelly who was an anorexic. She had a six year old child. Kelly's daughter was picking up the same habits as her mother. She was avoiding food because she saw her mother do it. Kelly's family realized that they both needed help.

Ken Seeley was one of the interventionists. His past addiction to meth and his recovery have given him the ability to show others that addictions do not have to be life long. Jeff VanVonderen was a pastor and author who was involved with interventions to aid families through all the facets of addiction. Candy Finnigan was another addict who recovered to become an interventionist. She helped other women with their addictions.

Dr. Phil McGraw was not part of this show but had his own. He did have many segments on addiction but none as "real" as this show.

Looking straight into the camera, they spell their names and then talk about the addiction that is affecting their lives. Following that, they discuss their childhood and often wonder where they took a wrong turn in life. Parents, friends and siblings often talked about how the addiction has affected their life.

Tressa Thompson was a athlete who won many world titles for shot put. She tested positive for cocaine one day before the Olympic Trials in 2000. This event caused her to be banned from Olympic competition for a period of 2 years. During this show, her family found out about her lesbian lifestyle. This caused many problems for her. Tressa started to use crystal meth every day as a way to cope. She has even stolen from her parents to buy drugs.

Antwhan Nance was an ex NBA player who played for the LA Clippers. His crack cocaine addiction left him homeless. He had a horrible childhood where his mother committed suicide when he was six. He started coping by smoking marijuana at age 9. He could not follow the rehabilitation program and was arrested for petty theft.

Tara Fields was one of the therapists who have been on the show.

Not every intervention was successful. Some only pretended to go for the cameras, while others were kicked out for bad behavior. It takes a very strong person to go through treatment.

Peter had difficulties dealing with real life. He often referred to himself as some of the characters in his games. He would spend many hours a day playing games. His games were more important than his family and friends.

Matt and Travis were also in season one but they were dealing with meth and crack cocaine addictions respectively.

All of the participants in the show were sent to a ninety day treatment program. This seems to be a long time but addictions were not something that can be cured overnight. Some required a longer period of time, believe it or not.

Nickelback and Bare Naked Ladies were two Canadian bands who provided us with great music but not the theme from this show. The O'Jays sang the theme song for a different reality show starring Donald Trump.
