I think this was another time John and Marlena were fighting their feelings.

This town is DiMera spelled backwards and it was frequented in the 90's. This is where John had his trial and near execution for Tony's murder. It hasn't been visited since that storyline wrapped up.

We later find out from Tony that Andre was saved at the last minute by Stefano and sent to Salem to impersonate Tony since he was sick. As we all know the real Tony returned in 2002 and died by the hands of the Salem serial killer. In another storyline change it was proven that "Tony" was actually Andre and had been impersonating Tony all those years. Apparently, Tony had been kept on a desert island and was brought back to Salem by John and Marlena in 2008. Andre died in 2008 when he turned off his respirator in the hospital after falling off the roof of the hospital. Andre is now officially dead and the real Tony is alive and married to Anna Fredericks Brady, the love of his life.

Eventually, Marlena forgave Liz and was the maid of honor at Liz's wedding to Neil. Marlena even helped deliver Liz's daughter, Noelle when Stefano held them captive.

Stefano was able to turn Hope into Gina by a chip that was in her brain. I don't know why he bothered to do this because the real Gina was alive until 2000. I was glad when this storyline ended.
