Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the "Café Disco" episode, Creed gives a miniature crystal disco-ball to Michael for use at Café Disco. As he gives the ball to Michael, Creed mentions that its absence will cause a problem for him (Creed). What is that problem?

Answer: He won't have any idea who's driving behind him now

Michael Scott's idea of turning the old Michael Scott Paper Company office in the basement of the building into a disco seemed dead until Erin and Kelly somehow turn it into a success. As people begin to get into it, Creed gives Michael the disco ball, saying "Boss, this used to hang from my windshield but it belongs in here." After Michael tells Creed he's "really getting this place," Creed admits to the problem it will cause.
2. What did Jim buy for $20 at a flea market, which sends Dwight on a hunt from the back of his computer all the way up a telephone pole?

Answer: Five hundred feet of red wire

In season 5's "Prince Family Paper" episode, the opening sequence shows Dwight discovering a previously unnoticed red wire coming from the back of his computer. He gets all excited and follows the wire through the office, gathering it up as he goes, past desks, down the hall, and outside the building.

The last shot of the opening is Jim in the foreground and a window in the background. Dwight can be seen following the red wire to a telephone pole and beginning to climb it to find the source of the wire. Jim assures the camera, "Oh he'll be fine. I made it up there," which is the confirmation that indeed this is a Jim prank.
3. In the "Benihana Christmas" episode, the Scranton Branch is short one gift from Dunder Mifflin corporate headquarters, compared to the number of staff. What is this gift item?

Answer: Dunder Mifflin terry bathrobe

Partway through the "Benihana Christmas" episode, in season 3, Dwight discovers corporate has shorted Scranton one bathrobe. Michael's solution is immediate, "Take it from Toby." No surprises there. In answer to the question I know you're asking, yes, NBC did sell the bathrobe in its online store!
4. When Jim transfers to the Stamford branch, what undesirable object does Karen secretly pass along to Jim, which he then switches back to Karen, and which they later pass off to Andy?

Answer: Squeaky chair

In the "Initiation" episode of season 3, we see Karen noticing that her chair is squeaky, and she accuses Jim of giving her his chair. But we learn from Jim that it had actually been Karen's and she swapped it for his chair when he wasn't around. So Jim was just swapping it back. Later she tries to irritate him by squeaking loudly, but Jim retaliates by singing "Lovefool" by the Cardigans in a sort of falsetto voice, driving Karen nuts and causing her to claim that that was "not a proportionate response." Still later, Andy returns to his desk, sits down, and...his chair squeaks!
5. Dwight's car often plays a role in the show, and Dwight is clearly very proud of it. What type of car is it?

Answer: Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

Although described in the show as a muscle car, the 1987 Firebird Trans Am was really a post-muscle car era vehicle. By the mid 1980s, Federal regulations and changing automotive tastes had spelled the end of the 1960s and 1970s muscle cars. Nonetheless, the car just seems perfect for Dwight.

As for the wrong answers, two of them were Andy's cars. In the beginning he had the Xterra, which Dwight tricked him into selling to Dwight so he could flip it for a profit. Then Andy got a Prius, which he used to trap Dwight against the parking lot fence during their duel over Angela.
6. Angela hides a power cord during the "Benihana Christmas" episode to keep the alternative party from using a piece of party equipment. What was that equipment?

Answer: Karaoke machine

Because Angela had been dismissive and mean to Karen when Karen tried to help plan the office Christmas party, Pam joined with Karen to plan an alternate party. They were unable to use the karaoke machine because the power cord was somehow missing. Eventually, after their party turned out to be more fun and more popular, Pam and Karen make peace with Angela and ask her to merge the parties. Angela asks if the karaoke machine has Christmas songs, but Pam says there is no power cord for it. Angela says "Oh, I may have seen it somewhere" and immediately goes directly to a potted plant and pulls out the power cord.
7. Dwight agrees to teach Ryan about making sales in the "Initiation" episode. If Ryan had not declared an end to the "initiation" in Dwight's barn when told he has to wrestle Mose, what object was Dwight going to have Ryan get into for the next phase?

Answer: A wooden Coffin

At first, Dwight pretends to be taking Ryan on a sales call, to show him the ropes. Instead he takes him to Schrute Farms and has him plant a seed, then abandons him in the field so that he has to walk to Dwight's barn. There he tries to initiate Ryan, sitting him in a chair and "testing" him with a series of questions, e.g. about fear.

When Ryan calls an end to the process, after being told he would be wrestling Mose (Dwight's cousin), Dwight calls out "Get in the coffin, Ryan," and thus it was revealed that the next stage was for Ryan to get in the coffin, which was evidently to have animals in it too!
8. For the "Christmas Party" episode in season 2, Michael has drawn Ryan's name and Jim has drawn Pam's name for the Secret Santa exchange. What gifts do they get them respectively?

Answer: An iPod, and a teapot with personal gifts inside

The spending limit was $20, but because Michael has his man-crush on Ryan he buys him a $400 iPod. Jim bought a teapot for Pam but his real gifts were inside. He added a picture of himself from his high school yearbook, a miniature pencil, a packet of hot sauce to remind her of when she put some on a hotdog by mistake instead of ketchup, and a card, "because Christmas is the time to tell people how you feel." When Jim explains that last part, we assume he's confessing his love for Pam. We never find out, though, because Michael turns the Secret Santa into a white elephant style event, and Jim had to retrieve the card to keep someone else from reading it.
9. When Darryl is asking for a raise in "The Negotiation" episode, what does Darryl notice Michael is wearing?

Answer: A woman's suit

Darryl is asking for more money because Roy has been fired (after trying to attack Jim) and with the branches merged the warehouse is very busy but with fewer employees. Darryl is in the middle of negotiating the raise with Michael when he notices Michael's suit. Darryl says "Are you wearing lady clothes? Those look like lady...pants." Michael replies "No, this is a power suit," but Darryl says "That there's a woman's suit." It is indeed a woman's suit, as the office staff discovers when they find out the suit has no pockets, it has buttons on the opposite side, and the label reads "MISSterious"!
10. In season 4's "Dunder Mifflin Infinity" episode, Michael is upset at Ryan and Corporate's move toward new technology. What item does he decide to use instead of websites and BlackBerrys to win customers back?

Answer: Gift baskets of food

This is after Ryan has become Vice President for the Northeast Region of Dunder Mifflin and is introducing a new website and BlackBerrys. Michael, feeling threatened by these changes, decides that he will show Ryan that old-fashioned service is superior, and comes up with the idea of delivering gift baskets to the customers who have left them for the big chain stores.

The baskets are filled "with peanut brittle, with macadamia nut cookies, with chocolate turtles, with raspberry jam and a little bit of fat and salt." None of the customers are swayed by the baskets of course; it is a total failure.

This is also the episode where Michael drives his rental car into a lake by listening too literally to the navigation computer!
