Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the defendant?

Answer: Stephen Gabriel

Stephen Gabriel's name had been put into an article about insider trading when he hadn't been. The story was on the front page, while the newspaper buried the retraction. As a consequence, Gabriel lost a lot of money.
2. Who is the victim?

Answer: Abe Forester

Abe Forester was in charge of the newspaper. Earlier that day, Stephen Gabriel ran into the meeting room where Forester was and told Abe "you'll get yours."
3. Where did the murder (and trial) take place?

Answer: Baltimore

Julie told Ben that she was going home to Baltimore. She had taken a leave of absence from her job in order to defend her friend's brother.
4. What was Julie's friend's name whose brother she was representing?

Answer: Penny

Although she's defending her friend's brother, we never see Penny in the entire episode. Julie tok the case because she knew "Stevie" was framed because he never would have done something like that.
5. Why did Julie say that defending would be an easier job than what she was used to?

Answer: Burden of proof is on the prosecution

Julie truly believed that defending someone accused of murder would be easy. When she found out that the man had 'threatened' the victim and the victim had been alive only 3 minutes prior to Stephen's arrival, she decided to call Ben and ask if Tyler could come help. Ben came instead.
6. What did Ben say defending was from Julie's normal job?

Answer: different

Ben really thought that Julie, although she was a capable attorney, wouldn't be able to do everything herself like questioning witnesses and examining evidence. He proved her right.
7. What time did the police say the murder took place?

Answer: 8:30

A memo was sent which had been typed on Abe's manuel typerwriter at 8:27. At 8:30, when Gabriel arrived at Abe's office, Abe was found dead.
8. Why was Julie late for court the first time?

Answer: "Car rental place was jammed."

Julie ran into the courtroom, threw her bag on the table and looked over at the prosecution table. That's when she saw him, her ex-husband. That's also when the viewers knew this episode was going to be a good one.
9. Julie had been married to the prosecuting attorney.

Answer: Yes

Although he looked very dashing, we later learned that he had had affairs while married to Julie.
10. Ben: "Are you related?" What was Julie's exact response?

Answer: Not anymore

Julie and Donald had been talking in the hallway when Ben came up to her. After realising that this wasn't just a normal defense-prosecution talk and that they really knew each other, he asked if they were related.
11. Where was Julie going to be while Ben was at the scene of the crime?

Answer: courthouse

In the hotel, Julie and Ben were trying to decide what to do. As Ben came along to help investigate, he decided to go to the scene of the crime. Ben then proceeded to ask Julie if she had any plans for dinner. She said yes, she had plans - with Ben.
12. How did Julie explain her relationship with the prosecuting attorney?

Answer: She was very young

She offered to tell him the whole story, but Ben declined. It's a pity because I think many viewers wanted to know the details!
13. What time did Julie set a dinner date for?

Answer: 6

Ben had asked if she had had dinner plans. Julie replied "Yes - with you." The two decided to meet back at the hotel at 6 for dinner.
14. What had Donald given Julie that she returned to him at his office?

Answer: Investigative reports

She sat down and told Donald that if she were in his position, she would expect herself to try to plea bargain - which she wouldn't do.
15. How long had Donald and Julie been married?

Answer: 10 years

Donald was still trying to win Julie back. He told her that those had been the happiest 10 years of his life. Julie didn't buy it.
