Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What day of the week did the murder take place?

Answer: Wednesday

When Conrad was asking Tom Neville questions at his restaurant, Tom replied that he was at the restaurant every night - except Wednesdays. Conrad then followed Tom (and his wife) and found that they went to AA meetings that night of the week.
2. What was the name of the woman at the bank that helped Mr. Avery?

Answer: Karen Brown

Karen's fingerprints were found on all but 3 of the $50 bills that were found at Jeff's house.
3. Whose fingerprints were found on only 3 of the $50 bills found at the murder scene?

Answer: Ellis'

It turns out that Lauren went into booking and took 3 of Ellis' $50 bills from his wallet and switched them with bills from the money found at the murder scene in order to give more evidence that Ellis had committed the crime.
4. On what date did Matlock say Lauren had signed into booking and evidence, respectively?

Answer: 24th and 25th

The judge asked for proof that Lauren could have switched the bills - Ben showed him copies of the logs that Lauren signed in order to receive access to those two locations.
5. Who was the real killer?

Answer: Stanton Avery

Jeff had been blackmailing him and when he heard Ellis offer Jeff money to get Jeff to stop dating Ellis' daughter, Stanton decided it would be a good time to kill Jeff and frame someone else.
6. Who, besides Lauren and Ben, spoke to the judge as a lawyer?

Answer: Julie

After the evidence became very strong that Ellis had not been the killer and that Lauren had helped to frame an innocent man, Julie asked to replace Lauren as prosecuting attorney.
7. What reason did Lauren give for trying to frame Ellis?

Answer: She was "tired of seeing guilty men go free."

Lauren messed up big time and if looks could kill - well, Julie would have killed her. Ben didn't look at Lauren as harshly, but he was furious with her.
8. What did Julie say after Lauren confessed?

Answer: She was "asking for a judgement not withstanding the verdict."

Julie also asked that all charges against Ellis Blake be dismissed. The judge agreed with Julie and had the witness/real murderer Stanton Avery taken into custody. Lauren wasn't taken into custody, but the judge said there would be an investigation.
9. What reason did Lauren give to Julie and Ben as to why she did what she did?

Answer: She was "under so much pressure."

It was her first case as a Deputy DA and it happened to be against the famous Ben Matlock - the man who rarely lost a case. When Lauren asked for Ben to speak on her behalf about how she was under so much pressure, Ben said "I don't think so."
10. At the end of the episode, who was buying dinner?

Answer: Julie

I think Julie felt a little guilty that someone she trusted and worked with could do such a terrible thing which tarnished the reputation of her office and profession.
