Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. David returns to work after his overindulgence in drink the previous night. He tells Maddie he's okay, and had only wanted to talk about promoting Herbert Viola to detective. Maddie doesn't buy it, and goes to her office to think things over. Soon, secretary Agnes Dipesto knocks on the door. What does Agnes say?

Answer: David was very sick earlier, and he's now hiding something

Maddie figures David should by rights be nursing an awful hangover. He was--and Agnes noticed as much, earlier in the morning. However, the work day must go on.
2. Client Elaine Johnson comes in to check on the photos she requested. They are ready, but Johnson isn't happy after all. What does she want the detectives to do now?

Answer: Get audio recordings of the McLaffertys together

Johnson says only tone of voice will prove whether her lover still cares about his wife. This time, Maddie is determined to go with David on the surveillance trip.
3. Back at the agency office, the detectives run into Sam Crawford. He and David are all smiles, kidding about yesterday's dinner. Sam goes with Maddie to her office. Maddie says she has to take care of a work assignment later on, and can't be free for dinner. What is Sam's reaction?

Answer: This is a place where most people prefer to keep their private live...private.

Maddie will not give up on her plans. So, that night she and David take a surveillance van to the McLaffertys' house. At some point, not shown on screen, they plant 'bugs' in the house to get sound recordings. The next scene opens with the detectives waiting in the van.
4. At the case subjects' house, Mrs. Rita McLafferty gets home first. She looks upset, for some reason, and then the detectives watch her...type a letter. Not so bad. If only she had stopped there. What does Rita do next?

Answer: Take out a gun

Before the detectives can get in the house and stop Rita, they hear a shot... In the next scene, the police have arrived to go over the scene. Alan McLafferty has finally come home too, so Maddie and David talk to him. He understandably worries how he will tell his children. There is nothing else the gumshoes can do at the moment, so they call it a day.
5. Sam is waiting at Maddie's house. He kids her about being late, and she is apologetic. Sam has fixed dinner. He also claims he didn't get angry or impatient; rather, he was happy to hear the car in the driveway. That's not all. What else does he say?

Answer: He wants to get married

Maddie is stunned, to say the least. Crawford is a little taken aback by her response, but Hayes will need some time to think.
6. Maddie sets out to find answers, but not from the parties in the case. Instead, she stops by David's apartment. The surprised Addison greets her at the door. Hayes takes a look around. What does she say?

Answer: Where are we? What *is* this room?

In a hilarious moment, Maddie stares around at the room, which has no normal furniture to be seen. David has to get a storage trunk for them to have a makeshift bench.
7. David marvels that Maddie must have left Sam at home. Hayes gets upset, and mutters, "I can't believe you're letting me go through this all by myself." Then, things take an unexpected course. What is it?

Answer: They kiss

It is a sweet and happy scene. It doesn't last: Maddie suddenly has a thought about the case.
8. Maddie announces she's realized something. She had started to cry, which made her mascara run. This brought to mind something unique about the scene at the McLafferty house. What does Maddie say about it?

Answer: Rita McLafferty had been crying too, but her makeup was perfect

Maddie wonders how Rita's face could look so normal and undisturbed if she had been unhappy enough to kill herself. Was it the work of someone else after all? Hayes insists on going back to find out.
9. The detectives go to Elaine's place. There, they also meet Alan, who doesn't have the best reaction to the guests--he knocks them over, and he and Elaine make a run for it. Off to the races! What do the detectives use to chase them?

Answer: A milk delivery van

In the chase scene, David drives like a lunatic and Maddie tosses milk and cottage cheese at the other car. They wind up ahead of their targets, but eventually both vehicles run off the road.
10. Where do they bring the chase to a halt?

Answer: At a bowling alley

After a fight in the lanes, the detectives capture both fugitives. The police arrive. Maddie and David talk things over, but Maddie never has a chance to tell David the *real* news... and things head on into the next day.
