Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As the episode opens, office worker MacGillicuddy announces that he did something over the weekend. What was it?

Answer: Got married

He met the woman in Las Vegas and married her a short time later. Most people in the office are very happy for him. Detective Maddie Hayes, however, is a little worried that he did this so quickly.
2. A client, James Bower, comes in and says his wife, Melissa, is missing. What does he say happened before he discovered this?

Answer: They had a fight

The viewers got to see the fight, in the first few scenes of the show. It becomes apparent in the course of the episode that James was not entirely honest about his role in events.
3. The detectives go to search a cabin the Bowers used to visit. A man walks in. He has a gun. David and Maddie hurry to explain who they are. The man lowers the rifle, but says he heard something between Bower and his wife. What was it?

Answer: An argument in which James struck Melissa

The man explains that he was having an affair with Melissa. Although the detectives are happy to be safe, they are now faced with a more complex case.
4. Maddie insists she wants off the case. Why is this?

Answer: She does not want to help James

Maddie finds it repugnant to have to work on behalf of someone who struck his wife. David doesn't like it any more than she does, but he believes they should finish the case. They have a nasty fight about it, and David refuses to return to the office with Maddie.
5. Maddie goes back to the Blue Moon office. Which descriptive scene takes place while she is there?

Answer: She paces and stares up and down the hall, as if waiting for David

The camera pans back and forth from the office door to the elevators. The impression is one of incredible loneliness and disappointment.
6. David comes in to tell Maddie some startling news: James Bower said he got a call from his wife. This shouldn't be possible. Also, David ignored Maddie's instructions to drop the case. A fight breaks out. What happens?

Answer: Maddie strikes David

Maddie immediately regrets it. An irate David, however, storms out.
7. David continues to work on the case. Which of the following steps does he take?

Answer: Has the police place a phone trace on the mysterious calls

This includes a visit to the Bower house. A grudgingly repentant Maddie goes to meet David there, and it seems she will have to help David see the case through to its end after all.
8. The detectives go to check on a lead at a roadside motel. The subject gets into a car and drives away. A chase ensues. What happens?

Answer: The car in front turns a corner and explodes

The phone calls had been traced to someone in a room at the location. The detectives chase the person, but the other car is destroyed. there is nothing for David and Maddie to do but consider the matter closed and return to work.
9. The detectives receive their fee from the client. Then they get another surprise-- Bower himself walks in again. James says he got another call after his wife's funeral. They go back to his house. What happens?

Answer: James starts to talk about the case -- and blunders into a confession

The police arrive, and James is soon in custody. The detectives talk things over, and decide working together isn't so bad after all. Since there's nothing left to do in the case, they go back to the Blue Moon office.
10. Maddie decides to get a present for MacGillicuddy. David kids her about changing her mind. It's been a rough case, and the detectives pause for thought before they leave the office. What do they daydream about?

Answer: Kissing each other

In one of the most surprising scenes of the episode, the detectives each in turn dream about striding across the room and boldly kissing one another. It is a provocative moment, but the dreams are soon over. They exchange looks, and then quietly walk out.
