Mr. Feeny had to have his appendix removed before it burst in the last episode of season 1. Mr. Feeny was also seen in a hospital when Mr. Turner was in a motorcycle accident in "Cult Fiction". Mr. Feeny had to see how things would turn out when Chet had his heart attack, (and then later had another one and died,) and he also was there for the Matthews when they were praying in the hospital for baby Joshua Gabriel to be okay.

He also appeared in the hospital when Cory had his tonsils taken out.

He actually did so on a few occasions. He entered the house to baby-sit when Judy canceled in the season 1 episode, "It's a Wonderful Night". In "Boys II Mensa", it's Halloween and Mr. Feeny's ruler treats are going over so well. Mr. Feeny runs in the Matthews' house as a last minute joke, trying to find some candy.

Another example is in season 5 (during "A Very Topanga Christmas") when Mr. Feeny comes into the Matthews' house to read out loud "A Christmas Carol". And to hang an ornament on the Matthews' tree in "Santa's Little Helpers".

He even came into the Matthews house when Alan was having his "mid-life crisis"! And I'm sure I missed a few more examples.

In the episode "City Slackers", Shawn reads Mr. Feeny's diary, and it says that Mr. Feeny called in sick one day in 1961. However, when, in "Seven the Hard Way", the entire group goes into the future and goes to Mr. Feeny's retirement party, there is a banner saying "MR. FEENY BELOVED TEACHER 1964 - 2006". Who knows which is really supposed to be more accurate?

Other than considering himself a former student and next-door neighbor, Eric would always call Mr. Feeny his "mentor". When speaking to Jack, Eric would try to explain how important his "mentor" meant to him.
