There were originally six crewmembers on the Odyssey, but one of them was killed when the shockwave hit the shuttle. The Seeker explains to the remaining five that other civilizations have met the same fate as Earth, but they are the only survivors he has ever encountered.

They are sent back, with full knowledge of the next five years, and must attempt to determine who will destroy the Earth. They find out that everything in history is not repeating itself. The results of their investigations help to sabotage the effort to destroy the Earth, but some things are also being sped up as a result of their actions.

Answer: Sarah

For Sarah, going back in time was a chance to prevent the death of her young son from cancer. After being sent back, she wakes up in bed with her first husband (at the time of the mission, she was with someone else), and quickly runs to find her son Corey.

Unfortunately, she becomes obsessed with making sure the doctors diagnose Corey's cancer early, and even though none of them find anything, she begins precautionary medications which cause her husband, Paul, to take her to court over Corey's custody. Sarah Forbes was played by Leslie Silva, who has appeared in "Fools Rush In" and "Divine Secrets of the Ya-Ya Sisterhood", and on TV in "Providence".

Answer: Leviathan

The transmission went to a satellite called "Bright Sky", part of an orbital physics experiment, which the crew were working on just prior to Earth's destruction. Back in time, Taggart has his friend at NASA, Ed Scrivens, look into "Bright Sky". Just after Ed finds out some facts, he is killed. Taggart later finds out that the satellite is about to be deployed, which is occurring three years earlier than in the original timeline, indicating that who or whatever is planning to destroy Earth has accelerated their plans because of Odyssey 5's investigating. Taggart manages to sabotage the satellite after it is deployed on a shuttle mission.

Answer: Sentients

The team finds that Dr. Chandra is missing, but are able to find out about the Sentients from his laptop. The team eventually finds Dr. Chandra, but he disapears because one of his students, who turns out to be a 'Synthetic', is after him. A Synthetic is a Sentient in human form.

In the original timeline, Dr. Chandra killed himself at a conference where Kurt was speaking, apparently because of his discovery and the doom it could bring to mankind. A Sentient is basically a string of computer code with a mind of its own. Scary thought.

Answer: Kurt

Dr. Kurt Mendel is a geneticist who was the science officer on the Odyssey. When they return to Earth five years previously, Kurt decides to live life to the fullest and take advantage of what he knows of the future. In the previous timeline, Angela had accompanied Kurt on his book-signing tour and the two had fallen in love.

At the end of the tour, Angela had broken up with Kurt, but later found out she was pregnant and didn't tell him. They decide not to repeat the past this time around and just stay friends. Kurt was played by Sebastian Roche, who has also appeared in "The Last of the Mohicans", "Merlin", "The Peacemaker" and "Household Saints".

Answer: Rapture

Neil had a couple of his computer whiz friends hack into Dr. Chandra's laptop to get the information the team needed. One of them made a copy of the data and shared it with a guy named Deckard, who found a recipe for the drug called Rapture, which promotes telepathy and is addictive after one dose. Neil's girlfriend Holly is one of those who tries it, and Neil must try to get a sample of it. Deckard won't let him take it for later, so he uses the drug.

While Neil is on Rapture, he is reliving the shuttle mission in his mind. Deckard is also on the drug and since his mind is linked to Neil's, he sees everything Neil is thinking.

Answer: Angela

Knocked unconscious by the shockwave which hit the shuttle after Earth exploded, Angela doesn't know what the others have learned from the Seeker, and when she is returned to the past, she wakes up on a shuttle mission in the middle of an EVA. Paralyzed, Angela is moving closer to the atmosphere and is not responding to mission control. Chuck Taggart is eventually able to talk her back in to the shuttle. Angela Perry was played by Tamara Craig Thomas.

Answer: Harry

Harry Mudd is a Sentient who stole a synthetic body from a lab. The body wasn't quite ready so Harry is a bit uncoordinated. He warns of a powerful Sentient named Phaedra who is tired of battling the other Sentients, so she plans on destroying the Earth using a supercollider lab.

After Phaedra starts a program to create strangelets with a negative charge which would cause the Earth to implode, Harry wires himself to the computer and explains love to Phaedra. She agrees to stop the program if Harry will join her, which he does. Harry was played by Ted Raimi who has also appeared in "Spider-Man" and "Stuart Saves His Family", as well as on TV in "SeaQuest DSV" and "Xena: Warrior Princess".

Answer: Neil

When sent back in time, Neil, the son of the mission commander Chuck Taggart, finds himself wasted at a party. Neil's older brother Marc is in astronaut training, but is not doing very well, and is afraid to let his father down by flunking out. Marc becomes suspicious of what Chuck and Neil always seem to be working on, and gives information about his father to Cynthia Hodge at NASA in exchange for good grades. Neil Taggart was played by Christopher Gorham, who has also appeared in "A Life Less Ordinary" and "The Other Side of Heaven", as well as on TV in "Popular" and "Medical Investigations".

Answer: Peter Weller

Chuck Taggart is the cynical (almost as cynical as Kurt), often irritated father of Neil who loses his wife because of the Sentients. Weller also directed two episodes of the series, "The Choices We Make" and "Fossil". Peter Weller has also starred as RoboCop in 1987's "RoboCop" and one sequel, "Leviathan" and "Butch and Sundance: The Early Years".
