Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In one episode Jerry agreed to wear a particular article of clothing for an interview by Bryant Gumbel on "The Today Show". What was it?

Answer: A "puffy shirt"

"The Puffy Shirt" was the second episode of season five of "Seinfeld". It was written by Larry David. Because of a misunderstanding Jerry inadvertently agrees to wear a puffy shirt, designed by Kramer's current girlfriend Leslie, for an interview on "The Today Show".

The interview is a disaster because Bryant Gumbel can't stop laughing at the shirt. In typical "Seinfeld" fashion there are several storylines going on involving the characters but all are affected by the puffy shirt.
2. Why did George want to name his first born child "Seven"?

Answer: Because it was Mickey Mantle's uniform number

"The Seven" was the 13th episode of season seven. In it, George announces that he wants his firstborn child, boy or girl, to be named "Seven" in honor of his baseball hero Mickey Mantle who wore that uniform number. Susan vehemently disagrees, but George stands firm. Expecting moral support Susan tells her cousin Carrie, who is expecting, about it.

Instead, Carrie and her husband Ken love the name and decide to name their child "Seven". This in turn upsets George who follows Carrie and Ken to the hospital in a last ditch effort to get them to change their mind, but they stand firm.
3. Who died from licking envelopes?

Answer: George's fiance Susan

Ironically it was the wedding invitation envelopes that George ordered which led her death. They were cheap and toxic. The character of Susan Ross was played by Heidi Swedberg.
4. What was Festivus?

Answer: An alternative holiday celebrated by George's father Frank

Contrary to popular belief "Festivus" was not a fictional holiday created just for "Seinfeld". It had been celebrated by the family of Dan O'Keefe, one of the show's writers, for decades. O'Keefe's father Daniel conceived the holiday as an alternative to the commercial Christmas holiday.
5. The character "The Soup Nazi" was based on a real person.

Answer: True

Larry Thomas was nominated for an Emmy in 1996 for his portrayal of Yev Kasseem, aka "The Soup Nazi". He was unaware that the character was based on a real person named Ali Yeganeh, owner of "Soup Kitchen International" in New York City. Thomas developed his accent by studying Omar Sharif's work in "Lawrence of Arabia. "The Soup Nazi" reprised his character in the finale of "Seinfeld" where he testified against Jerry, Elaine, George and Kramer.
6. We know that Michael Richards portrayed Kramer on the show. But what is the common bond between him and Leo G. Carroll's portrayal of "Topper" in the movies?

Answer: The first name of both characters was Cosmo.

Kramer's first name was not revealed until the sixth season when George met Kramer's mother in an episode entitled "The Switch". His first name was originally to be "Conrad" as written in an episode called "The Bet". But that episode was never filmed. Allegedly the name "Cosmo" was the name of the nephew of one of the show's producers.
7. Which character wrote a coffee table book about coffee tables?

Answer: Kramer

The storyline of Kramer's coffee table book ran through several episodes in the fifth season of "Seinfeld". Elaine hated the idea but her then boss at Pendant Publishing, Mr. Lippman, liked it and agreed to publish it. It became a huge success for Kramer.
8. Who was Jack Klompus?

Answer: One of the residents at the retirement home where Jerry's parents lived

Veteran standup comedian Sandy Baron portrayed Jack Klompus. He was a resident of the retirement community where Jerry's parents lived. His abrasive demeanor made him a constant foil to Jerry's father.
9. In one classic episode George bought a used car that he believed once belonged to actor Jon Voight. What kind of car was it?

Answer: A Chrysler LeBaron

This episode, titled "The Mom and Pop Store", was co-written by Tom Gammill based on an actual event. Although Jerry discovers that a "John Voight", not Jon, was actually the previous owner of the car Jon Voight makes a cameo appearance in the episode as himself. "The Mom and Pop Store" was the 94th episode of the series.
10. What was the rank of the library cop who nailed Jerry for not returning a book he had checked out twenty years earlier?

Answer: Lieutenant

Phillip Baker Hall portrayed Lt. Bookman in "The Library"--the fifth episode of season three. Bookman is an investigator for the public library. Jerry's checkout of "Tropic of Cancer" twenty years earlier had been long forgotten and he insists that he returned the book.
