Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. There were four members of the Banana Splits. If Fleegle is a beagle, what animal do you think "Snorky" was?

Answer: elephant

Snorky is a great name for an animal with a really big snork.. errr, snout. Similar to Harpo Marx, he has the dubious infamy of being the only character who didn't require a voice actor. He simply never said anything. Oddly, the Snorkster started off as a really hairy being (a cross somewhere between Cousin ITT and a woolly mammoth).

In the second season, he's all clean-cut and respectable.
2. Most of "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" episodes started off with the Splits holding a club meeting. They had several confrontations with a "rival" club. Can you name them? (Hint: The name is quite similar to the "bad girl" from the "Strawberry Shortcake" series.)

Answer: Sour Grapes Bunch

The members of the Sour Grapes Bunch were never "seen" in any episode, they just sent messengers with challenge requests. These messengers invariably wore purple leotards and miniskirts (it WAS that generation after all) and most of the time, showed up as go-go dancers. "Fruit of the Loom" is a company that makes a lot of underwear.

The Powerpuff Girls didn't exist in 1968 and Licorice Whip is a male character from "Strawberry Shortcake".
3. Usually some type of music was involved on "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour". One song featured a man with a deep voice who was famous for "I Can't Get Enough of Your Love, Babe". Do you know who he is?

Answer: Barry White

The song was called "Doin' the Banana Split" and is part of the compilation of 45 EPs sponsored by Kellogg's (of cereal fame) and featured on the show. The Banana Splits usually pretended to be playing the songs against psychedelic backgrounds. Barry White. Who'd have thought?
4. The adventure part of "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" involved both live-action and animated themed segments. One of them was "Arabian Knights". Which entertainer, better known for her association with Lamb Chop and Charlie Horse, provided the voice for Princess Nida?

Answer: Shari Lewis

Besides ventriloquism, Shari Lewis was trained at an early age in magic, piano, violin, juggling, acrobatics and dance. Judy Garland would have been much too ill (she died in June 1969) to have participated. Bea Benaderet voiced the original Granny from "Looney Tunes". June Foray, a very busy voice actor, is best known for the voices of Rocket J. Squirrel and Natasha Fatale.
5. One of the Banana Splits members was an ape/monkey with a name that is the same as a game. Who was he?

Answer: Bingo

Well, THERE's a game I've never played and don't intend to until I'm at least 65. Bingo (who we think is a gorilla) is the drummer of the group. His choice of name was most likely related to The Beatles as a take-off on Ringo.
6. In the second season of "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour", one of the segments, "Danger Island" were all repeats. What blond heartthrob actor of the time, more well known for "Airwolf", played the role of Link?

Answer: Jan-Michael Vincent

Jan-Michael Vincent was credited as "Michael Vincent" while being filmed for "Danger Island". Unfortunately, despite many bit parts in movies/TV, his life path degenerated significantly after "Airwolf". The other three choices are more recognized as singers and are not natural blonds.
7. What company, noted for their animated television productions, produced "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour"?

Answer: Hanna-Barbera

Originally started by MGM directors William Hanna and Joseph Barbera (of "Tom and Jerry" fame in the movies), the company had hits with "The Flintstones", "The Smurfs", "Yogi Bear" and "Scooby-Doo", amongst others. The alternate choices are usually more associated with movies rather than television.
8. Before "Honey, I Shrunk the Kids" was conceived, there was a thematically-related segment on "The Banana Splits AdVENTURE Hour" during the first season. What do you think it was called?

Answer: Micro Venture

In "Micro Venture" a professor and several children would study what it would be like to live in a microscopic world. Thankfully, they always had an equally microscopic dune buggy to escape in should they get into a dangerous situation.
9. Fleegle held the position of leader of the Banana Splits. As part of his duties he held something else, associated with courtrooms, which he often hurt himself with. What object was this?

Answer: gavel

The gavel was a sort of running gag throughout the series. It was hidden or stolen numerous times in a futile attempt to keep Fleegle from injury. Whenever he got hit with the gavel in some way, the other members would say "THAT's an ooch".
10. Among the many segments of "The Banana Splits Adventure Hour" was something called Gag Wall. Given the year (1969), what show do you think this idea was taken from?

Answer: Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In

All of the shows listed above were aired in 1969, but the only one with a stage prop of a wall with windows/doors opening so people could tell jokes was "Rowan and Martin's Laugh-In".
