"One Piece" - Who Is the Right Seiyū? Quiz

Answer: Mayumi Tanaka

When the male protagonist (or any male character) of an anime is relatively young, it is not uncommon to have him voiced by an actress, rather than an actor. In fact, Mayumi Tanaka's other famous role is also a male character, Krillin (Kuririn) from the "Dragon Ball" series.

She was born in 1955, and over the years she has voiced characters in more than twenty other anime, including "Pokemon" and "Rurouni Kenshin".

Answer: Kazue Ikura

Ikue Ōtani voiced Chopper from the first episode he appeared in (episode 83) up to episode 253. She was replaced by Kazue Ikura during episodes 254-263, and from episode 264 she resumed her role.

Kazue Ikura, apart from temporarily voicing Chopper, has also voiced a few minor characters in "One Piece", the most notable of which is Sentoumaru.

Answer: Kazuya Nakai

Kazuya Nakai was born in 1967. He has voiced characters in over forty anime. Several of the characters he has voiced are swordsmen, including Zoro. He has often voiced other "One Piece" characters (Pierre, Jigoro, Saldeath, and Drip) in episodes Zoro doesn't appear in. Hiroaki Hirata and Yūichi Nagashima are the seiyū of two other Straw Hat members (Sanji and Brook respectively).

Answer: Daisuke Gōri

Daisuke Gōri was born in 1952. He had a career that lasted for over thirty years. Before Jinbe, he voiced two other characters in "One Piece" (Dorry the giant and Rockstar). Unfortunately, he committed suicide in January 2010.

Katsuhisa Hōki, Jinbe's second seiyū, has also voiced Gekko Moriah. Toshiyuki Morikawa, Hideyuki Tanaka and Hirohiko Kakegawa have all voiced several other characters in "One Piece".

Answer: Boa Hancock

Kotono Mitsuishi was born in 1967 in Tokyo. She rose to fame when she voiced the titular character in "Sailor Moon". She went on to take the role of Misato Katsuragi in "Neon Genesis Evangelion". In "One Piece", Boa Hancock is voiced by Mitsuishi, except in flashback scenes where she appears as a child, during which she is voiced by Kanae Itō.

Answer: Kazuki Yao

After Jango, Kazuki Yao voiced the character of Mr. 2 Bon Kurei. However, his most recognizable "One Piece" role is that of Franky, who made his first appearance relatively late (episode 233). Ryūzaburō Ōtomo is the seiyū of Crocodile (Mr. 0), who was the boss of Bon Kurei for a time.

Answer: Yuriko Yamaguchi

Yuriko Yamaguchi was born in 1965 in Osaka. She voiced Robin from episode 67 to episode 298, and resumed her role in episode 320. She was replaced by Yuko Kobayashi during episodes 299-319, while she was on maternity leave. Yamaguchi also voiced Nico Olvia (Robin's mother) in flashback scenes.

Kikuko Inoue replaced Yamaguchi in another role while she was on leave, while Akemi Okamura is the seiyū of Nami, the other female member of the Straw Hat crew. Finally, Junko Noda is the voice of Tashigi.

Answer: Blackbeard (aka Marshall D. Teach)

Akio Ōtsuka was born in 1959 in Tokyo and has voiced characters in over fifty anime. In "One Piece", he is the voice of the character known as Blackbeard. Blackbeard's name in "One Piece" is Marshall D. Teach, and he is partly named after the real life Blackbeard (Edward Teach). Jewelry Bonney is named after Anne Bonny, while Trafalgar Law is named after Edward Low and the cape where the Battle of Trafalgar took place. Eustace Kid is named after two real life pirates, Eustace the Monk and William Kidd.

Answer: Masakazu Morita

Masakazu Morita was born in 1972 in Tokyo. Despite being relatively young for a seiyū, he has already voiced characters from over twenty anime (most notably Ichigo from "Bleach"). Toshio Furukawa and Kinryu Arimoto are the seiyū of Portgas D. Ace and Whitebeard respectively, while Kōichi Hashimoto voiced an early antagonist, Captain Kuro.

Answer: Chikao Ōtsuka

Chikao Ōtsuka was born in 1929 in Tokyo. He is the father of Akio Ōtsuka (seiyū of Blackbeard). The two of them occasionally work together. Chikao Ōtsuka has a career that spans for more than half a century (his first role was in 1950).
