Roseanne walks out on Dan and goes to Jackie's, where she watches Nick at Nite, and imagines her and Dan as the classic TV show characters Ann Marie and Don Hollinger from "That Girl", Jeannie and Major Nelson from "I Dream of Jeannie", and Mary and Mr. Grant from "The Mary Tyler Moore Show". According to the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)", the Conners lottery win is not real, but is merely a storyline in Roseanne's book. The lottery ticket is mentioned in the episode "Call Waiting", during Roseanne's stay at Jackie's after her fight with Dan. Bev criticizes Roseanne and Jackie for playing the lottery, and they share the numbers they played and the reasons behind them. Since Dan died after his heart attack, and the fight between him and Roseanne never really happened, it is possible that the lottery ticket was not real either (especially when you consider the reasons behind the numbers Roseanne picked.)

Roseanne is finishing her book in the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)". Roseanne reveals in the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)", that Jackie is gay. It is only in Roseanne's book that Jackie is a straight divorcee, with a past full of failed relationships. According to Roseanne, she made Jackie straight because she always saw her with a man. Roseanne gives Jackie a Prince in the episode "Some Day My Prince Will Come", when Prince Carlos of Moldavia feels he must meet Jackie after seeing her on the news. Carlos comes to the Lanford Lunchbox, where Jackie works, to make her acquaintance. Carlos then whisk her (and the family) away to New York.

Unfortunately, the relationship is over in the episode "Say It Ain't So", when Jackie reads in the newspaper that Carlos has fallen in love with his maid. Jim Varney plays the Prince, and his character's full name is Carlos Phillip Jonathon Kent Arthur William Hobson Peppy Charmaine.

In Roseanne's story, after the Conners win the money, they do a lot of traveling, including a trip to Washington, when their train is taken over by terrorist. Roseanne is separated from her family and must find a way to rescue them. She dresses in full Rambo attire, and prepares her weapons, including a tampon, which she uses to take down one terrorist. In the episode "Mothers and Other Strangers", after Roseanne gives the Conner's home a modern makeover, she fears Dan will not be comfortable when he returns from California. Luckily, she is able to add some familiar items because Darlene still has the afghan quilt that draped over the couch, and David can draw replicas of their dog artwork.

As seen in the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)", the Conners home never underwent a makeover, it was just a fictitious plot in Roseanne's book.

Dan returns from California, where he took his mom for a mental evaluation and treatment. Jackie overhears Dan's romantic phone conversation with his mom's nurse, and he confesses to Roseanne that he has not cheated on her but has developed feelings for another woman. Roseanne and Dan separate but eventually work out their issues and reunite.

Roseanne admits in the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)", that after Dan's death, she pictured herself being with another man, but she felt so guilty she had to "pretend it was for some altruistic reason." This can be seen in the episodes "Lanford's Elite" and "Some Enchated Merger", when Roseanne and Jackie attend a high society party and meet Edgar Wellman Jr. Edgar is the son of Roseanne and Jackie's former employer at Wellman Plastics (they worked there before quitting in the season 1 finale "Let's Call It Quits".) Edgar and Roseanne become attracted to each other while working on an employee buyout to save Wellman Plastics from closing.

The story viewers saw unfold in the nine seasons of "Roseanne" is only true in part. Although we were there for the drama when Becky eloped with Mark ("Terms of Estrangement Part 1", season 5), and we were in attendance when Darlene and David married ("The Wedding", season 8), Roseanne tells us in the series finale "Into That Good Night (Part 2)", that Becky and David are together, and so are Darlene and Mark. Roseanne says she switched it in her book because she thought they were better matches. Roseanne also tells us that Jackie is gay, so her relationship with Fred never happened. Leon and Scott, however, are a couple, and were introduced by Roseanne.
