Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In 'The Mentalist' I murdered the wife and daughter of Patrick Jane, a fake psychic who turned to police work. Along with my operatives, I killed over 70 people. I left my signature at every murder: a smiley face drawn in blood. Who was I?

Answer: Red John

Red John's true identity remained a mystery from the beginning of season one, right the way through to season six. Eventually, Patrick Jane narrowed his suspects down to seven. Not only was Red John a serial killer, he was the mastermind behind a criminal organisation called The Blake Association.
2. I'm Dr. Oliver Thredson, a psychologist in 'American Horror Story: Asylum'. I was originally called in to assess whether Kit Walker was fit to stand trial. I told Lana Winters that I'd help her to expose the horrors of Briarcliff, but instead I kidnapped her. Who played me?

Answer: Zachary Quinto

Thredson, played by Zachary Quinto, turned out to be a serial killer. One of his victims was Kit Walker's wife, and Thredson framed Kit for the killings. Lana and Kit realised who Thredson really was, but who would believe two asylum inmates? It was up to them to bring Thredson to justice.
3. I am an infamous criminal mastermind. In the first series of 'Sherlock', I set Holmes a series of murders to solve within a time limit, or else... Who was I?

Answer: Jim Moriarty

Moriarty was behind a number of crimes in 'Sherlock'. He often acted as a sponsor or planner for other criminals. Like Holmes, he appeared to be motivated by boredom, rather than power or material gain. In the second series, Moriarty attempted to destroy Sherlock's reputation, culminating in a climactic series finale on a rooftop.
4. My name is Raymond Reddington and my relationship with the FBI was complicated to say the least. I was one of America's most wanted criminals. I've killed countless people and I'm the brains behind numerous illicit business deals, but I voluntarily turned myself in. Which show was I from?

Answer: The Blacklist

Reddington turned himself into the FBI and offered to help them to catch the most elusive criminals; people and organisations that they were not even aware of. In return, Reddington was allowed a certain amount of freedom. His 'blacklist' of hard-to-catch criminals served his own criminal agenda. The FBI eliminated his rivals and those he had a grudge against.
5. In 'Heroes', I started out as a watchmaker thanks to my superhuman ability to understand systems and patterns. I soon realised that I could take the powers of other superhumans by touching a particular part of their brain. It did mean cutting open their heads. What was my name?

Answer: Sylar

The name 'Sylar' came from a branded watch that Gabriel Gray (his real name) was working on. He had a hunger to take people's powers that was often insatiable. Some of the many powers he aquired were telekenesis, lie detection, and shapeshifting. He was played by Zachary Quinto.
6. I understood computers more than people. In 'Person of Interest', I wanted to set the machine free, but I had no problems torturing and killing other humans. Finch called me Miss Groves, but what was my alias?

Answer: Root

Root's real name was Samantha Groves. She was a ruthless hacker and assassin who played various roles in order to get what she needed. She pretended to be a psychologist in order to meet Reese and Finch face-to-face. Her relationship with Reese and Finch was complicated: they spent a long time trying to track her down to bring her to justice, but the machine decided that they should work together as allies.
7. Compared to some criminals here, I'm a lightweight: I was only accused of killing one person. But when you live in a close-knit community and that person is an eleven-year-old boy, things start to get complicated. I caused a huge stir in 'Broadchurch'. Who was I?

Answer: Joe Miller

At the end of series one of 'Broadchurch', Joe Miller admitted to strangling Danny Latimer. Danny was an eleven-year-old boy who was friends with Joe's son, Tom, though the two weren't getting along in the lead up to Danny's death. Danny was going to reveal the inappropriate relation he had with Joe Miller. Joe lost his temper and strangled the boy.

He then threw his body from a cliff and onto a beach in order to make his death look like suicide.
8. My name is Nicholas Brody. I was a US Marine who was kidnapped by al-Quaeda for eight years. When I returned home, everyone thought I was a hero - except for Carrie Mathison. Which TV show was I from?

Answer: Homeland

Carrie Mathison was a CIA officer in 'Homeland'. When Nick Brody returned to America, he was awarded a promotion and began a life in politics. Mathison, however, suspected that Brody was working as a double agent. Her colleagues were not so sure, and she had to tread carefully due to Brody's high profile rescue and move to public life.
9. In 'Doctor Who', I was a Time Lord just like the Doctor (only a little crazier). I first appeared as a male in 1971, but in 2014 I regenerated into a female. Sometimes I wanted to take over the universe, sometimes I destroyed things just for the fun of it. Who was I?

Answer: The Master/ Missy

The Doctor and the Master have a long and complicated history. The Master often worked to control the universe, while the Doctor continually tried to save it. In his tenth and twelfth regenerations, the Doctor also tried to save the Master by encouraging him/ her to appreciate the beauty of the universe instead of attempting to own it.
10. Normally I solved murders using my 'little grey cells' and allowed criminals to be brought to justice. I am the great Poirot! But what was special about 'Curtain: Poirot's Last Case' (2013)?

Answer: The villain manipulated other people into committing murder.

Poirot was staying at a hotel when numerous murders and attempted murders took place. Although each case had its own unique suspect, Poirot suspected a mastermind behind these, and previous, cases. He came to realise that each criminal had been unwittingly manipulated into committing murder. With no proof or concrete evidence, Poirot had to independently and permanently bring the string of murders to an end.
