Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the opening scene in which Rick tells Morty that he is about a set off a neutron bomb, what does Rick say to Morty just before he drunkenly passes out?

Answer: "That was all a test, Morty, just an elaborate test to make you more assertive."

Even though Rick said it was a test, the bomb is armed and ready to go off, leaving Morty to somehow handle it all by himself! What happens next is not clear, as the scene cuts to the opening credits. In an episode in season 3 ("Vindicators 3: The Return of Worldender"), Morty reveals that he has had to disarm a neutron bomb by himself on more than one occasion. "This world was never meant for one as beautiful as you" is a line from the song "Vincent" by Don McLean, and is hardly the sort of sentiment that Rick is ever likely to express.
2. During breakfast the next morning, how does Morty's father Jerry describe Morty's adventures with Rick?

Answer: "High-concept sci-fi rigmarole"

The phrase "Excitement, adventure, and real wild things" is a phrase used by Zaphod Beeblebrox in "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy," a very zany series of books that has some conceptual resemblances to this show.
3. What is Rick's view of school?

Answer: "A waste of time... not a place for smart people"

Morty's parents complain that he has been missing school because of his adventures with Rick, who does not see this as a real problem.
4. Why does Rick freeze school bully Frank Palicki?

Answer: Frank was threatening Morty with a knife

Frank is a really scary guy who threatened to cut Morty for no real reason. However, he is nowhere near as scary as Rick! Morty asks him if he's going to unfreeze Frank. Rick says he'll do it later, but just leaves him there. Soon afterwards Frank topples over and shatters like an icicle, much to the horror of Summer who happens to be walking by and does indeed have a crush on him.

At the end of the episode, she tearfully tells her family that Frank "was frozen to death today!" and Rick claims to know nothing about it, even though he had just told her parents that he was going to be "100% honest" with them from now on.
5. What is Beth, Morty's mother, doing when Jerry drops in on her unexpectedly at work?

Answer: Performing heart surgery on a horse

Beth is a horse heart surgeon. Even though she was in the middle of critical surgery at the time, Jerry persistently bothers her with a non-urgent issue and seems to mock her because she is not a human heart surgeon.
6. Rick takes Morty to dimension 35-C to collect some Megaseeds, which he repeatedly says are important for his scientific work. What does he plan to use them for?

Answer: He never specifies

Rick keeps reiterating that they are very important but never explains why. Morty undergoes horrible suffering over these seeds, but Rick shows a complete lack of sympathy for him. At the end of the episode Morty briefly develops super-intelligence because he has *ahem* ingested the seeds, but this effect wears off very quickly and is followed by highly unpleasant side-effects.
7. While in dimension 35-C, Rick gives Morty a pair of grappling shoes that he says allow the wearer to walk on any surface. However, Morty attempts to walk down a cliff face with them but falls and breaks his legs. Why?

Answer: Rick failed to tell him that you have to turn them on first

Rick acts like it is completely obvious that you have to turn them on first, even though Morty has never seen them before and has no way of knowing this. Rick heals Morty with "broken leg serum" he obtains after visiting a future dimension. He says their medicine is so advanced that they have broken leg serum in every corner drug store. Additionally, they have halted the aging process, so everyone there is young.

This means they find Rick fascinating because of his advanced age and he gets to spend a lot of time with many attractive women.
8. Why does Jerry try to convince Beth to put her father Rick into a nursing home?

Answer: Morty has missed a semester of school because of his many adventures with Rick

Morty's parents are informed by the school principal about Morty's repeated absences and he informs them that he has left many messages about this with Morty's grandfather. (Funnily enough, these messages were never passed on.) Even Beth, who loves Rick, agrees to sending him away.

However, Rick convinces them to let him stay by tricking them into believing that he is a good influence on Morty.
9. Rick's attempt to smuggles the Megaseeds through inter-dimensional customs goes pear-shaped, and he and Morty end up fleeing from the security guards. Rick tells Morty that it is OK to shoot the guards because they are what?

Answer: Robots

Morty shoots one, and it becomes obvious that they are living creatures. Rick justifies his lie by saying "It's a figure of speech, Morty. They're bureaucrats!"
10. What does Jessica, who Morty has a crush on, say to him when he suddenly emerges from a portal that appears in mid-air in the school lunch room?

Answer: "Wow! Did you just come into the cafeteria through a portal?"

Jessica seems intrigued rather than shocked by this extraordinary turn of events, which is a recurring theme for characters in this show. Although Morty had said that Jessica doesn't even know who he is, she seems fascinated by him at this point, and says, "You're Morty, right?" Sadly, Rick drags him away before he can fully enjoy her attention.
