Hiyori has monkey (saru) on her jacket because it's the first character in her family name while the second signifies a persimmon. The character for 'ri' means the country or a village, while the pronunciation of 'hiyori', using two different characters, means weather, but isn't the standard way of speaking of the weather.

Hiyori is constantly using bald, which in Japanese is 'hage', as an insult and occasionally puts add-ons with it. Retard and Fatty are obvious insults to intelligence and to appearance, but a flat foot is something you call an enemy or someone you're in rivalry with.

Hiyori and Shinji both use Kansai-ben, which is a dialect from the Kansai region of Japan. Ichimaru Gin and Urahara Kisuke also talk in Kansai-ben and possibly the most noticeable characters of this.

Hiyori's tsuba is rectangular with four hearts, which is far from matching her aggressive personality. Rose's tsuba is a large diamond, Mashiro's is a rectangle with bubbled circles at each corner and two equal with the blade. Love's, like Rose's, is shaped like a large heart, while Lisa and Shinji's are rectangular with square and rectangle designs and Hachigen's is a rectangle with the short width having an opened square cut out.

Shinji's Zanpakuto is white and Hiyori's is black, the same as Ichigo's. In the manga, the Zanpakuto's are all shaded black at the blunt half. It's somewhat rare for a Zanpakuto to be black, for instance, no one among the Gotei 13 has a black Zanpakuto. Yadomaru Lisa's Zanpakuto is also black.

Hiyori's Hollow mask has a horn positioned on the forehead resembling a rhinoceros' horn and indents inward at the center of the sides. During the Arrancar Arc, only three Vaizards reveal their Hollow masks which includes one with two cloth-like bands and another with a red marked pattern. No one during the Arrancar Arc reveals having rings on their mask.

Hiyori's Hollow mask has a total of fourteen purple diamonds; seven on each side. The tops of the five on the sides extend up to the base of the horn while the four in the center are equal in length. These are obviously just decorative, but may be a signature design to her Zanpakuto as the crescent is to Ichigo's Zangetsu, but this is merely speculation.

Hiyori wears two red hair bands for her pigtails and three hair pins; two on the left and one on the right colored with a green and pink sphere on each one. She's always seen with her sandals, sometimes taking one off and using it to smack someone across the face.

To further her aggressive personality, Hiyori is always seen with a fanged tooth hanging from the left side of her mouth. This hasn't gone unnoticed by Ichigo, who, after being called bald, called her fang-girl.

Despite the involvement of Shinji's group during the Arrancar Arc, not much has been revealed yet at this point such as releases or even Zanpkauto names.
