Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What reason does Marie give for wanting to send out a Christmas letter?

Answer: Because she got one from her cousin Theresa that was insulting

The episode begins with Debra talking to Marie about a Christmas letter. When Marie comes over a little while later, she tells Deborah that she is planning on sending out the letter, though Debra objects. Marie says she has to send one because of the one she got from her cousin Theresa.

When Debra reads the letter, she realizes why the few lines that mention Marie and the family annoyed Marie.
2. Why does Debra not want Marie to send the Christmas letter?

Answer: Because it makes Debra look like a fool and is full of lies

Marie uses the letter to say that Debra's cooking is slowly improving and that Marie helps her out with the kids to even the score. Debra tells Raymond that the letter makes it seem like she's lazy. Marie plans on sending out the letter anyway, which annoys Debra even more.
3. What does Marie says that makes Raymond spit out his biscotti?

Answer: That she isn't into petty jealousy

Debra thinks that Marie wants to send the letter out of spite and jealousy that Theresa is doing so well. When Marie says that jealousy isn't her, Raymond spits out his biscotti. He jokingly agrees with his mother, even though he knows that jealousy drives her.
4. Who helps Marie rewrite the Christmas letter to make everyone look good?

Answer: Debra

Before Marie can leave and send out the Christmas letter, Debra tells her that they can fix it so that everyone will look good, not just Marie. Marie is surprised when Debra uses wordplay to make Marie's life seem more fascinating. Debra kicks Raymond out of his chair and helps Marie write the new Christmas letter.
5. Why does Raymond get upset with the new Christmas letter?

Answer: Because it says that he is 'still' a writer for Newsday

Raymond believes that the word 'still' indicates that Marie and Debra think he should be doing something else. He goes on to say that he could have a position higher up if he wanted to, but he is comfortable where he is. Debra's insisting that it just means that he's still employed and doing his job doesn't help Raymond's behavior.
6. While Marie, Debra and Raymond are fighting over the Christmas letter, Frank barges in and yells at them to get their attention. What is his reason for coming over?

Answer: He's hungry.

After getting everyone's attention, Frank merely says "I'm hungry". He then joins in the conversation about the letter. Unlike Robert and Raymond, however, he is happy with what the women have written about him: a list of his favorite TV channels and that his 'love affair with bacon continues'.
7. When Robert comes over, he complains that he was hardly mentioned in the last Christmas letter that was sent. It turns out that he has it with him. How many years has he been keeping that letter?

Answer: Ten years

Raymond comments that Robert has been competing with him for most of his life. When Robert denies it, Raymond brings up the fact that the letter he is still angry about is from ten years ago. Robert begins to realize that there is something wrong with him.
8. In the Christmas letter that Robert brings over, Frank finds a list of things he wants to do before he dies. What does he think about the list now?

Answer: He thinks it's stupid.

Frank thinks that it is way too late to do anything that is on the list. He says that the list is worthless now. When Debra says that it's not too late, he points out that one thing was to see Frank Sinatra in concert.
9. Frank mentions that one thing on his list is to drive cross -country. He then questions why he ever wanted to do that. What state does he mention not wanting to go to?

Answer: California

Frank says, 'You know how I feel about California', to which the family groans and says that they do know. Frank says he would rather drive off a cliff. Marie brings a bit of humor to the table by saying that she will warm up the car for him to do so.
10. Robert says that when he does something good, he thinks 'take that, Raymond'. What does he do when something bad happens to him?

Answer: He prays that Raymond doesn't have a good day.

Raymond is surprised that Robert prays that Ray doesn't do well. Robert says that his exact prayer is, 'Come on God. Get him.' Raymond tells Robert that he's sick.
11. Why does Raymond get so mad when Debra asks why he hasn't tried for the editor job?

Answer: Because he tried twice and was rejected

Raymond angrily shouts that he tried twice. Even Robert apologizes to him for being turned down like that. Marie pushes Debra out of the way to get to Raymond. Everyone wonders why he didn't tell them about it.
12. Debra tries to cheer up Frank and Robert about the letter. When Raymond asks her about him, what is her response?

Answer: 'You're fine, you're married to me.'

Debra tells Frank that he should just start a new list of things he wants to do before his death. She then tells Robert that he is tall, handsome, and a lieutenant for the NYPD. Raymond says, 'What about me?' 'You're fine, you're married to me" is her response.
13. The Barone men rip out sections of the new Christmas letter. Who rips off the smallest segment?

Answer: Robert

Michael does not appear in this episode. Raymond rips out the biggest section. Robert's small ripped section is his emphasis on the fact that only three lines in the whole Christmas letter are about him.
14. What does Marie do with the Christmas letter she was writing with Deborah?

Answer: It isn't known for sure

Marie takes the letter from Debra and rips off Debra's section in it. She then hands it to Debra and runs out, saying, 'Thanks for your help!' It isn't said what she has done with the letter. It can be assumed that it was sent out, but it isn't known for sure.
15. What is the Barone family doing at the end of the episode?

Answer: Reading a Christmas letter and picking on it

Judging by Raymond saying "Read another one" to Frank, the Barones have been doing this for a while. They pick on a picture that was included in the letter, saying that the dog is an ugly kid and that the woman in the picture looks like she is in a wind tunnel.
