Episodes #41 and #42 are the first episodes of "Seinfeld" since the pilot without Elaine Benes. In fact, in episode #41, "The Trip (1)", Elaine is not even mentioned. During this time Elaine is in Europe. She is also in Europe during "The Pitch" and "The Ticket", although she is shown briefly in each episode.

The reason for her absence was Julia Louis Dreyfus' off screen pregnancy with her first child. She would return in episode #45, "The Wallet".
