Besides being closest to Alice, Shane also mentions that she has known her the longest. From what we may gather from the show, we know that, by the time Shane met Jenny in Season one, she already knew Bette and Alice. Max (formerly Moira) is introduced to the group on the third season when Jenny arrives from Skokie accompanied by Moira.
