Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Season 1: In "SB-129", a character says, "So get your earplugs ready." Which character says it?

Answer: The French Narrator

"SB-129" starts off with the classic scene where the Narrator warns everyone on a lovely Sunday morning that Squidward is about to practice his clarinet, so get your earplugs ready. Squidward says, "I think I'll treat Bikini Bottom to some real music." SpongeBob's alarm goes off, the force of which causes Squidward to get his clarinet stuck down his throat. SpongeBob says his wonderful line from his open window to Squidward's, "Good morning Squidward! Ya wanna go Jellyfishing?", to which Squidward incoherently attempts yelling at SpongeBob, but to no avail. "Great! We'll be right over!" The episode has barely just begun, and already the viewers have a smile on their face. That sums up the magic of "SpongeBob SquarePants" in a nutshell.
2. Season 2: Which of these quotes from "The Smoking Peanut" is matched accurately to the corresponding character? Only one is correct. All of the quotes are from the episode.

Answer: "Next stop, gift shop!"- Mr. Eugene Krabs

The correct match for, "Why, when I find out who caused that oyster so much pain, no more jiggery-pokery!" is Sandy. The correct match for, "I'm so close to solving this crime, I can almost taste it!" is memorably and hilariously from Patrick (the scene with the yellow popsicle). "You know the guy who did it?!" is said by Squidward, which is shortly followed by his slamming his door in SpongeBob's face when he finds out he "didn't know".

How Mr. Krabs loves Free Day at the Bikini Bottom Zoo. He thinks he can take whatever he wants without spending a hay penny of his beloved cash. Donning a fake black mustache disguise incognito, he grabs everything that isn't nailed down, including what's nailed down and screwed in. An employee of the zoo offers him a free balloon, and he takes everyone he has. At the stand with the free drinks, he fills a whole barrel with soda. And, like I said, he even steals the light bulbs out of the zoo's sidewalk lamps! And, of course, his biggest plunder of the day is what causes all the havoc of the episode (which ironically turns out to be worthless).
3. Season 3: "Patrick! How could you?!" is said by which character in "The Snowball Effect"?

Answer: SpongeBob

In a funny, memorable early scene of "The Snowball Effect", SpongeBob throws a snowball at Patrick, who says, "Thanks a lot, SpongeBob! While you were just standing there whistling, someone threw a snowball at me!" SpongeBob responds, "Oh really, Patrick? [laughs] Did the snowball look like this?" He then tosses another just like it into Patrick's face. Any regular person would have at that time learned it was SpongeBob who threw the snowball. But Patrick is far from regular. He says, "This is serious, SpongeBob! Someone's after me! I think I'd better leave town!" "Patrick, I threw it. We're having a snowball fight!" "Snowball fight?! I wanna play! I wanna play!" SpongeBob then tells Patrick he has to first make a snowball. Patrick doesn't know how. First he constructs a snow-cube. Then he makes a snow-triangle. Then a double-helix is made out of snow by Patrick. So SpongeBob helps Patrick by making a snowball for him. Upon handing it to him, Patrick promptly throws it in his face. SpongeBob says, "Patrick! How could you?!" He answers, "It's a snowball fight, remember?" I guess all's fair in love and war.

Patrick once more becomes paranoid and thinking someone is out to get him during the events of "That's No Lady" approximately four years later.
4. Season 4: It is SpongeBob's ambition to shoot the real Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy movie using the real Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in "Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy VI: The Motion Picture". Which of the following quotes is not a true failed take of Mermaid Man's as seen in the episode?

Answer: Take 3: "We have to get back to those stolen Krabby Flabbies!"

After 5,003 takes, just when it seems like Mermaid Man is finally going to get his line right, Plankton's arms give out and drops the microphone into his old mouth. SpongeBob yells, "Cut! Plankton, next time could you keep the boom out of shot? Other than that, you're doing a super-job!" Plankton laments he's not good at this "boom" thing. Sandy then yells, "Did somebody say boom?!" and sets off another explosion.

After SpongeBob starts ranting and going insane, Mermaid Man begins prattling a wondrous tale. SpongeBob thinks it is great and orders filming of it. Oddly, his speech is not seen at all in the completed film.
5. Season 5: In "Krabs à la Mode", chaos ensues after Plankton freezes the Krusty Krab. During the events of the episode, can you name the elderly fish who yells out, "I want my Krabby Flabby!"?

Answer: Old Man Jenkins

"I want my Krabby Flabby!" is easily one of my favorite quotes from the fifth season, and my favorite Old Man Jenkins quote ever. From Mermaid Man to "Goo Goo Gas" to Old Man Jenkins, the writers of "SBSP" have no qualms with making fun of old people. Do they think old age will somehow evade them? In any case, it's always funny.

Old Man Jenkins has had many different appearances throughout the course of the history of the show. The reason may be there are many old fish in Bikini Bottom named Old Man Jenkins, or it could be just a gag that he often looks different. "Krabs a la Mode" features Jenkins in what is by far his most common appearance (green, white shirt, thick white glasses, orange dots on top of head). He has also been blue in "My Pretty Seahorse", tall and with a beard in "The Main Drain", and there has even been a Cannonball Jenkins and a Farmer Jenkins.
6. Season 6: "Guys! My advice wasn't meant to be taken literally! I meant live life to the fullest, not to maim yourselves!" Who says it in "A Life in a Day"?

Answer: Larry the Lobster

In "A Life in a Day", SpongeBob and Patrick want to become daredevils like Larry and live in the moment. Larry points out early in the episode at Goo Lagoon that SpongeBob and Patrick are spineless (literally), weak, afraid of their own shadows, and pathetic. His advice to the two is to "live each day as if it were their last". That is the advice that Larry says was not meant to be taking literally, as the final stunt nearly kills them all.

Patrick takes things to the extreme. All of his stunts nearly get him killed, such as riding a wild sea horse. SpongeBob's stunts are far more puerile, preferring instead to ride a sea horse kiddie ride. Among Patrick's other death-defying stunts are: Getting smashed up while inside a boat, skating into a pit of sea monsters, and worst of all, tipping over Biker's motorcycles. Now that's living in the moment!
7. Season 7: Can you complete the lyrics to "Musical Doodle" from "Earworm"? "Round and round the record _____ all day! Listen again it takes you far away! Trying to stop it is ______, so listen again to my musical doodle!"

Answer: spins, futile

"Earworm" is one of the greatest episodes from season seven. In fact, I'm willing to go so far as to call it a triumph (like the "Abrasive Side" that premiered with it). We all get catchy tunes stuck in our head, and this episode puts an over-reactive, creative, intelligent, funny, and entertaining "spin" on it. That is one of the many things that makes the show itself so remarkably great, that is, the problems and situations the characters find themselves in so often mirror troubles we face in our own day-to-day lives. It explains why over half of the show's viewers/fans are adults.

Late in the episode, Sandy puts a cowboy hat on the worm in a failed attempt to drive it out with another catchy tune (in this case, a western song she sings). Seriously, Sandy?! You can put a hat on the worm, but you can't pull it out?!
8. Season 8: "Sentimental Sponge" deals with SpongeBob's struggle with compulsive hoarding. SpongeBob is provoked into this sentiment by a friend who said, "You're throwing away Pete?! You can't part with a keepsake! That's why you keep them for Pete's sake!" Who is the friend?

Answer: Patrick

It's spring cleaning. All Patrick throws away is a Q-tip. He asks SpongeBob, "Whatcha got in your trash can?" and is horrified by what he finds: "Huh?! You're throwing THIS away?! The wrapper from the gum I gave you yesterday?!" SpongeBob answers, "Well, uh... yeah." He then finds Pete the rock.

He is disgusted, believing SpongeBob just doesn't understand sentimental value, and tells SpongeBob, "It's time you re-evaluate your priorities!" SpongeBob ponders it for a moment, and remembers all the items in his trash can do hold precious memories.

He then prevents the trash men from taking his junk, and things get worse from there. The clutter of all the little things he just can let go of eventually migrates to Squidward's property, and results in him calling the sanitation police.
9. "Oh my gosh, Jeffrey Jellyfish!" Can you name who says this?

Answer: Patrick

Patrick says it (famously, mind you) in "I'm Your Biggest Fanatic". While at the biannual Jellyfish Convention, Patrick feels the need to touch everyone and everything. He has an itch to touch all the things he's not supposed to touch. This includes state-of-the-art jellyfish nets, the harpoon from "Jellyfish: The Movie", the sore on Dr. Manowar caused by Big Lenny, and, of course, Jeffrey Jellyfish.

At the end of the episode, Patrick reminds SpongeBob of the lesson he had learned that day, that "hero worship in unhealthy".

He then coyly wheels a tied up Jeffry Jellyfish in a wagon presumably home (or at least attempts to, it is unknown if he makes it that far).
10. Which character blushingly says, "Wow! A whole day dedicated to me!"?

Answer: SpongeBob SquarePants

SpongeBob says it in "Gone". This episode, in which SpongeBob finds out everyone has abandoned Bikini Bottom, has the feel of a nautically nonsensical Twilight Zone. That is, until it ends with a reasonable explanation. It is National No SpongeBob Day.

It is a whole day dedicated to getting away from SpongeBob (even though, according to SpongeBob, they are gone for weeks). They do milk it a little, however, extending the festivities. SpongeBob cheers up when Krabs reminds him it is a whole day inspired by him. On National No SpongeBob Day, first they build a wooden effigy of SpongeBob.

Then they burn it to the ground a dance on the ashes like there's no tomorrow. "Wow! A whole day dedicated to me!" So it seems Mr. Krabs convinces him it was innocuous enough. Only SpongeBob can every possibly feel honored by an event most would most certainly feel very insulted by.
