Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Often when Patrick is laughing really crazy or saying/doing something really dumb, how many upper teeth is he shown to have?

Answer: One tooth

One tooth is correct. And what a joyous sight to behold it is. Whenever Patrick is being exceptionally goofy or crazy, he erupts in rambunctious laughter and all you can see is one upper tooth. This phenomenon does not occur when Patrick is agitated or dismayed, rather during periods of high elation or noteworthy imbecility.

The first time Patrick was shown with one tooth was in "The Secret Box" when he said, "A secret string!". It was not as common to see the phenomenon in earlier seasons as in later ones. My personal favorite Patrick "one tooth" moment, while very hard to choose, is at the end of "Patrick SmartPants", following shortly after the Brain Coral is ripped out, and Pat is so happy to be his old self again.
2. In which episode does SpongeBob say, "I got diarrhea!"?

Answer: "The Bully"

In "The Bully", after SpongeBob tells Mrs. Puff that he fears Flatts will kick his butt, Mrs. Puff talks to Flatts for SpongeBob and uses SpongeBob's name. Flatts lies to Mrs. Puff and tells her that he is from a town where kicking someone's butt means they want to be your friend (and play some sports with you on the weekends). Although the story would clearly seem to be a stretch, perhaps the line added on about playing sports on weekends made it more believable.

While Mrs. Puff describes what happened with SpongeBob, Flatts builds SpongeBob's image and likeness out of sand behind Mrs. Puff's back. He then kicks it, demolishing it. It is then SpongeBob yells, "I got diarrhea!" and runs off.
3. Which of the following is NOT a Patrick quote?

Answer: "Good grief! He's naked!"

"The gloves are off now! It's booger time!" is a quote from "Battle of Bikini Bottom", a weird episode if ever there was one. When Mr. Krabs overhears that Patrick is "digging for gold", he runs in the room. When he comes out with a disgusted look on his face, Squidward asks him if he found any of Patrick's "gold". Mr. Krabs tells Squidward "he's not digging for any gold I'm looking for."

"We should take Bikini Bottom and push it somewhere else!" is the classic Patrick line from "Sandy, SpongeBob, and the Worm" when the town is trying to get away from the Alaskan Bull Worm.

"I hate this channel" is Patrick's classic line (accompanied by his classic action) during which he changes the channel in "Squidville" when Squidward is about to find out his dream place to move to (it would have been better for Squidward if he hadn't).

"Good grief! He's naked!" of course is not a Patrick quote, but rather Mr. Plankton's unforgettable (there are about ten billion unforgettable lines from "SpongeBob") reaction to seeing a naked Krabs in "The Algae's Always Greener".
4. Bubble Bass appears for the first time in over ten years and seven seasons in which of these episodes?

Answer: "Plankton's Good Eye"

The legendary Bubble Bass had never been seen outside the first season. Then one day, some smart writer decided to bring him back in the eighth season episode "Plankton's Good Eye". He is seen when Plankton rescues him from a burning building. At the end of the episode he is seen again, and in a hug, squeezes out Plankton's "good eye", making him evil again.
5. What are Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's given names?

Answer: Ernie and Tim

If you have not seen "Mermaid Man Begins", then you don't know what I'm talking about. You may have even done something daft like look for "Kyle" in the answers. In the season eight episode "Mermaid Man Begins" (which might be a spoof of the title of a movie about a certain man known as the "world's greatest detective"), we learn the origin story of Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy in an "Original TV special". Of course, while waiting for the power to go back on, Mermaid Man and Barnacle don't recall the real stories and remember events that did not happen. However, what really did happen is far more unbelievable than anything that is dreamt of in their aged philosophy. All I'm going to say is: It involves popcorn...

For those of you remember watching "Mermaid Man & Barnacle Boy V" nearly a decade ago, and for that near decade thinking Barnacle Boy's real name was Kyle... Even ten years ago, Mermaid Man was demonstrating senility. That is something even as a young twelve or thirteen year old I got, I couldn't believe people thought his name was actually "Kyle". After ten years, I am finally vindicated and have shown for a decade I was right through the Gospel of common sense. However, hopefully the "Barnacle Boy's real name is Kyle" crowd won't try to make a ridiculous "Gilbert Bates/Gilbert Harrison" argument ("Leave it to Beaver" reference).

The writers of "SpongeBob" decided to name the two aquatic heroes after their honorable and distinguished yet aging voice actors of the same names. Good old Ernest Borgnine is a great actor of the Golden Age of Hollywood. He has fans ranging from ages 8 to 108. Although he is well into his 90s, we must wish him the best of health that he may be around to do his voice work past the time his age is numbered with three digits.
6. In "Barnacle Face", the reason Pearl got the barnacles on her face is because the soap she was using was made of what?

Answer: Leftover Krabby Patties

The night before the big dance, Pearl wonders why she can't get rid of her unsightly facial blemish (the barnacle). Mr. Krabs refuses to spend money (I never would have guessed! That's so unlike his character!) to help Pearl get rid of her blemishes, so he orders SpongeBob to help her. No matter what SpongeBob tries, nothing can get rid of the barnacle, and it multiplies. Her face winds up looking like a barnacle pizza. At the climax, everyone learns that Mr. Krabs is manufacturing his own soap to save money out of leftover Krabby Patties. Pearl has been washing her face with grease. Unlike most shows with similar problems, a cure for Pearl's barnacle is never found. Alternatively, SpongeBob sticks Mr. Krabs' treasured gems inside the barnacles, concealing them and making her look ravishing for the dance, much to Mr. Krabs' chagrin.

In real life, it is not uncommon for barnacles to ably attach themselves to whales of all kinds as well as ship hulls.
7. Which of the following is NOT one of Patrick's proposed activities to draw SpongeBob out of his house in "I Had an Accident"?

Answer: "Trampoline!"

Patrick's only proposal not mentioned in the question is just one ice cream. "Trampoline!" is the correct answer because that is what Sandy proposes. The rest of Sandy's are: "Underwater surfin'!", "Ferris wheel!", and "Clam wrestling!". Patrick does and says an enormous amount of dumb/crazy things in the episode, even for him.

The most memorable ones being: "And that's when I punch him, right?!", "That penny has the most beautiful voice", "Not until four", and, of course, his crazy-talk. Sandy does not think washing an old person sounds fun.

It does for the old person!
8. Which of the following is NOT a Squidward quote?

Answer: "I love you."

"Once again, I hate people" is the quote of Squid's that closed the episode "Sweet and Sour Squidward", after the cops run over his clarinet. "Hate" is a quote from "The Googly Artiste". Yes, in the episode, for one of his lines, he just simply said, "Hate." I had to rewind it a couple of times on my DVR, because it was so perfect, the line, so fitting, so... incredible, I couldn't believe it. "I hate all of you" is an old-school Squidward quote from "Karate Choppers". What about "I love you"? Did Squidward ever say it? Are you kidding? Did SpongeBob ever said it? He has expressed love for people and objects, but he has never said it that way. Mr. Krabs would have to have the word money in that sentence. So who says it? Patrick says it in "Chocolate with Nuts", in a concerted effort to flatter the customer.

But you probably already knew that. That is a classic episode.
9. "You like Krabby Patties, don't you Squidward?", was asked, famously mind you, with that unforgettable face, by whom?

Answer: SpongeBob

What an unforgettable face SpongeBob had in "Just One Bite" when he asked Squidward that question. I don't need to explain it, for if you have ever seen it, you will never forget it. I saw the debut of this episode in 2001 as a little kid and saw an alarm system drop a bucket of gas on Squidward and then drop a match on him. I was scarred for life! I can't get the horrible image out of my head every waking minute I breathe upon this earth! Sometimes I just want to end it all to make the torment and excruciating terror stop once and for all! I just can't escape! It's far worse than anything anyone saw in Vietnam! Thank you, censorship, for sparing other young, aspiring "SpongeBob" fans my cruel, sick fate!
10. The children do nothing but proclaim adoration for Krabby the Clown when he finally shows up at the conclusion of "Krabby Land".

Answer: False

The children wait hours for Krabby the Clown, and are entertained for a while by the Krabby Patty Burglar. They respond to his self-inflicted pain positively. When Krabby finally does show up, the children are flabbergasted at what they see. It is just Mr. Krabs in a cheap suit and a tomato for a nose that he had painted blue. Mr. Krabs tells SpongeBob his theory of survival of the fittest: The fact that the children are tricked into forking over their hard-earned cash by shoddy amusement parks and talentless clowns is no skin off his nose. SpongeBob still feels that Mr. Krabs was wrong to deceive the children as he sneaks out the Krusty Krab through a window with a sack of loot.

The children repay him, however, in more than good time, by charging at him, taking every dollar he has and making it rain money from the roof of the Krusty Krab. When SpongeBob sees the "summer miracle", he comes to believe thousands of dollars fluttering in the breeze must be, after all, the true meaning of summer, ending his newfound disillusionment for the season.

The children's final revenge taken against Mr. Krabs is similar to one of the painful acts SpongeBob had earlier used to entertain them. They use the money they took off him to pay the ultra-buff fish to force feed him an entire truck of lima beans while tied down to poles. Mr. Krabs humorously pleads with them to let him go to get some of that green stuff, and when he sees the beans, he cries, "Not that green stuff!". It ends with him shouting, "Nooooooooo!"
