Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-Jae) is a divorced dad who lives with his mother trying to make ends meet. What is his current occupation prior to competing for the prize money?

Answer: Chauffeur

He is also a gambler and at one point, stole money from his mother to bet on horses. Gi-Hun ends up in debt and struggles to support his daughter. He enters the contest in hopes of winning the cash prize to do so.
2. Gi-hun and many others are entered in the contest by playing a game of "ddakji," a card flipping game. Those who choose to play for higher stakes are whisked away in a van to a secret location. When they get to this location, their clothes are different than the ones they came in with. What are they wearing?

Answer: Track suits

They were gassed in the van and wake up to wearing teal track suits and white slip-on shoes similar to Vans. A number is attached to their uniforms instead of names.
3. The contestants, including Gi-hun, his childhood friend Cho Sang-woo (Park Hae-soo), find out that they are playing children's games (with a deadly catch) for a chance to win over 45 billion Korean won. All contestants are in a considerable amount of debt and have come to enter the contest in hopes of solving their financial problems. What is the first game played in the show?

Answer: Red Light, Green Light

A giant robotic doll "facilitates" the game by turning her head toward a tree (green light) and then facing the contestants (red light). Those that are caught moving during "red light" are eliminated by being shot to death. Since this game is timed with a finish line, anyone else who fails to make it to said finish line in time is also eliminated.
4. What shape is NOT seen on the dalgona candy, seen in the second game?

Answer: Hexagon

The challenge was to pick out the shape in the dalgona candy without breaking the shape in a certain time limit or be eliminated. Gi-hun picked the worst one, being an umbrella shape, but managed to pick it out by licking the candy to melt it. Sang-woo's shape was a circle. There was no hexagon shape.
5. Police officer Hwang Jun-ho (Wi Ha-joon) is on the lookout for a missing family member and finds out about the contest via the iconic business cards handed out to potential contestants. He infiltrates the game by following one of the vans headed out to the secret location. What family member is he looking for?

Answer: His brother

Jun-ho's brother has been missing for quite some time and disguises himself as one of the many workers, even going through the various records of every time the contest was held. Unfortunately, he finds out that his brother is the Front Man (Lee Byung-hun), a previous contest winner.
6. Among the many contestants, Gi-hun and Sang-woo befriend North Korean defector Kang Sae-byeok (Jung Ho-yeon), Pakistani immigrant Abdul Ali (Anupam Tripathi), and an old man who has joined the games to do something instead of suffering from being sick. He dispensed advice on life, sleeping habits, and how to win a game of tug of war against stronger opponents (third game). What was this old man suffering from?

Answer: Brain tumor

Oh Il-nam (O Yeong-su), the older gentleman, was suffering from a brain tumor that was constantly getting bigger and he wanted to compete instead of suffering every day. Unbeknownst to the contestants, Il-nam was one of the people behind the competition.

During the game of tug-of-war, Il-nam gives his team an unconventional strategy to beat another team full of muscular men.
7. The fourth game took place in a mini-neighborhood of sorts. This particular episode was significant as it pitted one constant versus another by playing marbles; contestants had ten marbles each and had to win the other person's marbles in a time limit. What did NOT occur during this episode?

Answer: A contestant hides away from the game.

Sang-woo tricks Abdul Ali into giving all his marbles as he found out that he was losing. A husband and wife (Kim Yun-tae, Lee Ji-ha) paired with each other prior to the game and are forced to compete against each other after hearing the rules of the game (the winner ended up with survivor's guilt) and Ji-yeong (Lee Yoo-mi) voluntarily surrenders the game because the other contestant, Sae-byeok needed the prize money for her younger brother, who is in an orphanage, and to bring her mother away from North Korea. Because of the strict monitoring system of the game (contestants are under surveillance), there is no way someone could hide away from the game successfully.
8. What happened to Sae-byeok after the glass game?

Answer: A shard of glass was embedded in her side.

When the contestants were supposed to walk on glass panels, not knowing if they were regular or tempered glass, only three contestants made it out alive (out of sixteen total that made it through the gauntlet of deadly children's games); Sae-byeok, Gi-hun, and Sang-woo.

After the game, the remaining glass panels were shattered and unfortunately, a hand-sized glass shard hit Sae-byeok in the side.
9. What kind of masks did the VIPs wear to watch the games being played?

Answer: Animal masks

The VIPs were a group of very rich people who would bet on the contestants like horses, only they would bet on which ones would be eliminated. All of them were seen wearing animal masks to maintain anonymity like the contestants and the workers behind the games.
10. Who is the eventual winner of "Squid Game"?

Answer: Seong Gi-hun

Childhood friends Gi-hun and Sang-woo eventually face off against each other in the titular "Squid Game." Gi-hun wins after a brutal face off and has survivor's guilt for several months. He does fulfill a promise he made to Sae-byeok and saves another man from going to the same horrific nightmare that he and his fellow contestants went through.
