Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. U.S.S. Voyager (NCC-74656):

Answer: Intrepid

The design of the Intrepid-class ship was unique in that, at the time, no other class of Starfleet vessels was designed with hinged warp nacelles.
2. U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-C):

Answer: Ambassador

Featured in "Yesterday's Enterprise" ("TNG"). This ship appeared through a temporal rift, jumping into the future 22 years and causing a change in the timeline.
3. U.S.S. Excelsior (NCC-2000):

Answer: Excelsior

In "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock", its registry number was NX-2000. At the time, the Excelsior had been undergoing experimental transwarp propulsion tests. By the time Sulu had command of her in "Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country", the transwarp drive had been removed and the ship's registry number was changed to NCC-2000.
4. U.S.S. Defiant (NCC-1764):

Answer: Constitution

Featured in "The Tholian Web" ("TOS"). This is the ship that was vanishing into "interspace," nearly taking Captain Kirk with it. This vessel is not to be confused with the U.S.S. Defiant (NX-74205) that was attached to Deep Space Nine.
5. U.S.S. Sutherland (NCC-72105):

Answer: Nebula

From "Redemption, Part II" ("TNG"). Data took temporary command of this ship during the Federation blockade at the Romulan Neutral Zone.
6. U.S.S. Grissom (NCC-638):

Answer: Oberth

This was the science vessel that was attacked (and subsequently destroyed) by the Klingon Bird-of-Prey in "Star Trek III: The Search for Spock".
7. U.S.S. Stargazer (NCC-2893):

Answer: Constellation

Picard had commanded this ship prior to the Enterprise-D. It was believed the Stargazer was lost until the renegade Ferengi DaiMon Bok returned it to him in "The Battle" ("TNG").
PRODUCTION NOTE -- This ship was originally going to be a Constitution-class vessel, but the producers decided to explore a different model. The reason "Constellation" was chosen for the class of Picard's old ship is because it could easily be recorded over "Constitution" in post-production.
8. U.S.S. Yamato (NCC-71807):

Answer: Galaxy

Featured in "Contagion" ("TNG"). This ship blew up right in front of the Enterprise-D, leading Captain Picard to investigate the cause of the explosion before a similar fate befell his own ship. The destruction of the Yamato was caused by massive system failures after an encounter by an Iconian automated probe. NOTE - An "illusory version" of the Yamato was seen the episode "Where Silence Has Lease", and a different registry number was given to the ship. Though there is no explanation of this in the "Star Trek" canon, the "Star Trek Encyclopedia" states that a series of miscommunications between production designer Mike Okuda and the producers led to the errant registry number in this episode. Okuda was unaware of the problem until after he had seen it aired on TV, by which time he had already finished designing the markings for the the real Yamato, which was shown in "Contagion".
9. U.S.S. Rio Grande (NCC-72452):

Answer: Danube

This was one of the Danube class/runabouts assigned to Deep Space Nine, and the only runabout to survive all seven seasons of "DS9". Runabouts were named for prominent rivers of Earth.
10. U.S.S. Reliant (NCC-1864):

Answer: Miranda

Genetically-engineered villian Khan Noonian Singh commandeered this vessel in "Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan".
11. U.S.S Valiant (NCC-74210):

Answer: Defiant

Featured in "Valiant" ("DS9"). Manned by Starfleet cadets, the Valiant crew became renegades after the ship's commander (a Starfleet officer) had died in action during the Dominion War.
12. U.S.S. Equinox (NCC-72381):

Answer: Nova

Featured in "Equinox, Parts I and II" ("Voyager"). This ship was presumed lost shortly before Voyager, until Captain Janeway discovered her in the Delta Quadrant.
13. U.S.S. Enterprise (NCC-1701-E):

Answer: Sovereign

This ship was introduced in "Star Trek: First Contact" and nearly destroyed in "Star Trek: Nemesis".
14. U.S.S. Prometheus (NX-59650):

Answer: Prometheus

The "NX" should've given it away, as this was an experimental ship! Featured in "Message In a Bottle" ("VGR"), this ship was designed to separate into three autonomous warp-capable attack vessels!
15. U.S.S. Hathaway (NCC-2593):

Answer: Constellation

Featured in "Peak Performance" ("TNG"). Riker took command of this derelict ship to engage in battle exercises against the Enterprise-D (and he would've won, if it weren't for those nosy Ferengi!).
